What would be better for these kids? Sitting at home playing video games?
That's all there is to do in life. You either play nutso travel sports or you stay inside and play video games. There isn't some big arse world out there to go be a part of or anything.

The only options aren’t:
1. Travel ball
Or
2. Video games

i know a guy who makes 24 bucks an hour who spent $7800 on a trip to colorado for his 12 or 13 year old daughter to play in a softball tournament. then he complains to me about money being tight. they take that shite seriously. i don't think the daughter has fun with it
I mentioned this on here before, but several years ago I use to work with a guy who talked about travel ball non-stop and I wish i was exaggerating. If he wasn't talking about something work related he was either telling someone at work about what was going on with travel ball or was on the phone taking care of "travel ball business".
His office and my cubicle was close to each other so I could hear everything he talked about.
One day he was absolutely pissed. Evidently another travel team "took" one of the better players on his team (I assume he coached, but he was the one always putting together teams to go play in out of state tournaments). He was complaining because him a few other parents decided to chip in and pay for a kid to replace the one that was taken from them.
He was talking to one person and was complaining how he would have to be paying even more money to help a kid out, who couldn't afford it. About an hour later I heard him on the phone again telling someone "If we ask __________ to play, his parents would pay for him, but we will be replacing a starter with a kid who will not play unless we are up by enough runs to be comfortable enough to put him in".
In general, he was a nice guy. Kind of had an easy going attitude about him, but when it came to travel ball it was as if he turned into a different person.

Only you would post that wall of text in an anchored thread.

Uh-oh, now you've done it. You're going to get the keyboard warriors riled up.

Nobody wants to read all that shite on page 6 of a thread.

1) force your kid to sit at home and play vidya
2) go into debt so you can support your child’s travel ball expenses
The difficult choice all parents must make

And he rest of the country, fwiw.
It's their "everyone gets a trophy" mentality. The way the younger generations have gone into depression because they lost a damn election, is frightening.

I know a Dad from soccer whose kid at 14 is a good soccer player but there are 30 kids in the area better. He told me recently that the goal is for his son to get a soccer scholarship to college. Maybe 5 boys in LA a year get a soccer scholarship, and only one or two to just a decent school like Clemson, Maryland or NC State. The others go to Centenary or UAB or the like. And most of these are 1/4 tuition scholarships. The delusion is real. The kid would be much better served studying his arse off.
