How old and how did your kid find out about Santa?

Since my kid is starting to ask questions, I am wondering how old your kids were when they found out about Santa? Did you tell them, or did they "bust" you in some form? Share your stories!

My son is 10, we had the talk about a week or so before school started in August.

He started asking questions last year, and we wanted to get it done before kids picked on him at school for believing. He actually was pretty relieved and excited to have a piece of Intel, and is pretty pumped about helping us out this year with his 4 year old sister.

That's always the best. Getting to be one of the "adults" and making Christmas awesome for the babies.

Hopefully he knows who the real Santa was. That makes it awesome too.

The trick is to break it with some other news so that it is comparatively not as big of a deal. Like tell him that he's adopted and Mommy and Daddy will never love him as much as they love his brother. That should make telling him about Santa seem like no big deal.

If they don't know before they start school, they will know pretty quickly after that. Honestly, by that time, they probably are piecing things together on their own.

My dad told me when I was 4 and he had a little too much Jack and Coke. Mom was pissed. My sisters didn't know until much later. My kids are 11 and we haven't had the conversation yet but I don't think they believe in Santa anymore

I don't have kids, but I had a friend who believe in Santa until after Christmas his 7th grade year. I didn't know him until HS, but he told me his parents never told him there was no Santa and he didn't think they would lie to him.

He it was right after Christmas in 7th grade when he mom talked about where she bought something he got from "Santa" and he said something like "so Santa isn't really?" and his mom said "are you serious? I thought you figured it out a few years ago".

For me, I can't remember the exact time, I might have been in 3rd or 4th grade. That's when my parents told me, but I was in doubt before then. You hear older kids talking like "you still believe in Santa? He aint real!", but I never wanted to tell to ask my parents because I was worried they would stop buying me gifts "from Santa".

I'm planning on sitting him down when he's 8 or so to tell him that Santa and God don't exist

My son is 12 and he knows but plays along like its real because he doesn't want to take the chance of there being any reduction in Christmas presents if he tells his mom the gig is up.

I don't have kids but I found out when I was 6 when a "letter from Santa" was written in my dad's very distinctive handwriting. I "played along" for 2 years after that. I didn't care that there wasn't a Santa. I just wanted that sweet loot.

Lmao, I was like 8 I believe and my dad didn't even blink an eye. Just looked at me on Xmas eve and said he wasn't real, than went to work.

Had the discussion with my son when he was almost 10. Told him in July so it didn't come as a such a shock as if I told him during Christmas season. He is almost 12 now and loves playing along for his 7 year old sister. Unfortunately, she is curious Georgette and found the elf stored under clothes in my wife's armoire. Had to tell her that he periodically comes to visit during the year to check on things.
