If you're eating right and exercising like you should, how much do you expect to lose?

this would depend on how fat you are right now

not enough info.

If you're 600 pounds you should lose a lot more per month than if you weigh 200 pounds

I started the year at about 315, running 2 miles every morning before work and not drinking any soda or eating fast food I'm down to 288. Hoping to lose another 15 to 25 by the end of the year

This. Don't shoot for an exact weight, but a percentage of your current weight/fat percentage.

if you are 30-50lbs overweight and stick to diet and exercise i would expect around 10lbs a month.

What is "exercising like you should"?

I dont exercise at all, outside of yard work, chasing the four year old, being on my feet (walking) almost all day, etc.

I was told i could i need to gain about 10 pounds.

That's great dude! Have you been readjusting your caloric intake as you lose weight? Have you incorporated any weightlifting? Your body will get use to running 2 miles a day and it won't do as much for fat loss as it use to.

At most I'd say 2 pounds a week but probably closer to a little over a pound, because you will be putting on muscle too.

So losing 18lbs in the first 30 days is not normal or safe?

This is subjective. Eating the correct types of food in bulk will still get you fat or retain weight. Make sure you are taking in the correct amount of calories for your body. If you under do your calories, your body won't be as efficient shedding it off. Also, doing the same exercises over and over will start to dwindle your results because the body wants to be homogeneous state. It will adapt.

It is probably safe because most of it will be water weight. 8-10 lbs of actual fat is a good goal to achieve per month.

As a guy that puts on about 10-15 lbs of football watching weight every fall/winter, it usually takes me about 2-4 months to get it off. A good number if getting after it is about 2 lbs/week, but I usually lose a week or two due to an event on a weekend.

2 pounds per week. It is marathon not a sprint. You want to lose as much fat and as little muscle as possible. If you are dieting you really should do weight training as well to help preserve and maintain muscle tissue.

I never focused on my actual weight.

I had gotten out of shape, so I started running and eating right. Pretty much measured results by the way my pants fit and how I look.

8 to 10, but take some measurements, especially if you are doing weight training. You might lose inches but not a ton of weight.

Exactly! I tried to get the wife to take some "before" pictures of me when I first started but I didn't.
I'm noticing all of clothes fitting very loose already.
I started on 7/29 and this morning I'm down 22lbs.
Eating lots of protein lean meats and veggies, drinking tons of water. Joined the gym Monday and started back on lots of cardio, followed by weight training.

I don't expect to lose much, but I'm not grossly overweight either.
