Who pays for their own wedding?

My wife and I paid for our own wedding. We don't come from wealthy families and we certainly did not want to burden either of our parents with the expense of a wedding so we decided to do it ourselves.

I think we spent about $3,000 total. We used friends and family to help with food, rentals, and decorations. We actually helped clean up the rental hall after the reception because we were some of the last ones there. I wouldn't change a thing about the entire day. We had a great time and I think all of our guests did as well.

I'm mid thirties planning now. We actually don't want a real wedding but families and friends keep asking. Neither of us is real religious so no church weddings but maybe a small ceremony somewhere and a party after.
I'm the type that would rather spend $10k on a trip to Fiji and spend $1k on a wedding, than spend $30k on a wedding, then honeymoon in Biloxi or Gulf Shores. (not naming names if y'all post here. lol)

Wedding was $40k. Father in law told us he would give us a check for $25k if we wanted to elope/small wedding. Never have regretted the wedding for a second. $25k would've been nice but we didn't really need that money.
