So we have our first little GEAUXT coming in August. I'll probably be able to take a day for when she's born and then back to work the next day. Wife is taking 8 weeks, but only part of that is paid.
Maternity and Paternity leave I this county is arse backwards.
After you have a kid you need a week or two to help your wife and kid and just be at home learning to be parents. I got 4 days off and my company threatened to fire me. The first month was brutal.
People who believe otherwise don't have kids.

FMLA should be eliminated.
Why? It doesn't require any payment or subsidy. Just the obligation to not terminate.
And it's not even a requirement for small business.

I had my wife induced on a Saturday so I wouldn't miss work. She still gives me shite to this day because of it.

First kid I took 2.5 days plus the whole next week. Second kid I took 4 days.

I think I took a couple days IIRC. MIL came and stayed a couple weeks to take care of the kid and my wife so the man of the house could get out and win the bread like he's supposed to do.

I took a week with the first.
I was switching jobs with the twins but had been saving vacation time. I was able to cash out the vacation time and my new job gave me 2 weeks paid before I even started. The twins were born on my official start date.

My wife had to go back to work the day after she was released from the hospital.
My tool pusher boss wouldn't let me miss my 3 week hitch, so I worked during the birth.
Thank god my great grandmother is retired and could watch the baby during my wife's 12 hour shift

I took a week. My wife is taking 8 weeks. I have a German coworker who said back home the men get like 6 months or something ridiculous. She said the women get two years off if they want but most only take a year.

I've taken a couple of months off for each child. Bonding with my child is more important to me than any job or amount of money.

I know it sounds bad, but she cooked, cleaned, and waited on me hand & foot. It really wasn't bad at all.

WAT.
ETA: 3 days. Son born Wednesday afternoon. Was back at work following Monday. Wife gives me shite about it every now and then, and she's pregnant with our second now. Will likely have to take more time off for this little bastard.

For first and second child, had two weeks vacation but only used 5 days for each.
I wanted to save a little vacation time in case something popped up.
My wife has 6.5 weeks paid and then some more unpaid leave but she refuses to take that...she didn't want to take the full 6.5 maternity.

I was back in the fields chopping cotton 20 minutes after the first one was born.
