While it's worse on the east coast it also occasionally hammers the west side too. 4 of us rented a house in oak creek south of Milwaukee while building a oak creek power station. City code was to keep the side walk clear or get fined. It snowed enough we bought a snowblower.

I have a driveway that is a little over a quarter mile long up a fairly steep hill. Nobody is going to shovel that. We had half a foot of snow a few years ago and dragged a large metal bar behind the tractor to clear the driveway, a sort of poor man's snow plow. I would consider getting a regular snow plow but we only get heavy snow once every 4-5 years.

It's the same as mowing a big yard on hot day like today. Either sucks. It's just another chore.
A push snow blower for the larger jobs, and a battery powered handheld snow broom for walkways and light stuff.

After about the 10th foot of the year, which is around January, I start to hate it.

Except you don't have to mow the grass at 6am just to be able to leave your house.

Lived in the Boston area in '95-'96 while in grad school. We shared a shotgun house of sorts, with owner's family on the other side.
First decent snowfall and I thought I'd be a good tenant and shovel the walk and long driveway. I get about halfway done and the husband comes out and says something like
"Thanks but no need to bothah. We got a snow blowah."

Depends on the size of your driveway and the length of time the snow stays on the ground. Go to a place like Colorado where it snows but very often the sun melts most of it away within a day or two…best of both worlds.
And by all means, do NOT have a north facing driveway.

Lived in Denver for 8 years. I’d shovel the sidewalk and that was it. My jeep allowed me to be lazy.
Shoveling anything sucks, but you really do have to be careful when you’re dressed for a blizzard and are exerting yourself.

I actually enjoy it, gives me a workout in the winter

the trick is to shovel it while its still snowing. snows not as much of a pain in the arse as it is when it ices over. i put pet friendly salt on my steps and sidewalk (using the other salt burns the dogs feet) and it helps with accumulation.
but if you have fresh snow on the walkway, and you walk over it a couple times, it compacts it and ices over and that shits not goin anywhere if youve got a plastic snow shovel. first year in colorado i wore cowboy boots when it snowed and i busted my arse good and proper on the ice. hard. people die every year from that shite and it took a simple mistake like that for me to see why.
ive got a long driveway and im not shoveling that shite. i let my job know i dont drive in snow (i do) and that on days when it snows like 6 inches and up im workin from home.

It's sucks. It's easier when its colder but it still sucks.
I try to shovel before it gets too deep. Much rather shovel 3-4 inches of snow at a time instead of having to dig out of my driveway.

Meh. Only did it once on vacation when I was 15 or 16. I was the oldest male so I got to do it by myself while the women and kids were warming up in the van. It's not hard but doing it regularly would be a pain in the arse.

It's really not a big deal. Not like it snows every day unless you live in the UP.
Now how those guys deal with it I'll never know.

My good baw, I got close to 400 inches last year. It's not every day (sometimes weeks between when it's just too damn cold), but the only solace I take in watching three feet drop in a day is that eventually I'll get to ski it.

It snows very infrequently in Oklahoma but often when it does snow, it snows quite a bit and the strata is like this, from bottom to top:
Solid ice > crusty shite that'll make you break your snow shovel handle > actual snow.
Nobody has snow blowers here and if they did, they're useless because of those bottom two layers. Finding someone to come shovel it is next to impossible. You have to take lots of breaks because the cold makes it feel like you're not working that hard, although you are and your heart rate goes through the roof because of the exertion & guarding against the cold.. that's why people have heart attacks while shoveling snow.
