The minimum wage was $1.25 when I was a teen IIRC, but I got a job in a doctor's office and made more than that.

$6 at McD's. Worked my arse off for a month in the summer and then went back to school for senior year in hs. Crazily, or not, in my time there...
Manager fired, two employees fired, one guy altogether stopped showing, that guy also dated a new girl but left her too, the new girl hired, assistant manager had to be trained to be a manager, district supervisor came in as interim manager. Turnover was friggin' ridiculous. When I went back to visit a month later, only the new girl was still working there.

Fall of 1976. I turned 15 and qualified for employment as a Petroleum Transfer Engineer Trainee at Buck Henderson's Friendly Exxon. I was paid the then minimum wage of $2.30/hr, plus frequent, if not large, tips!
I learned how to repair tires, change oil, cheat the Tom's snack machine and boil hot dogs in an electric coffee percolator. I worked there all through high school. I had about as much fun as a kid can have pumping gas.
And, Dave P., if you're out there somewhere, "How's your coiffure?"

$4.25 at 14 at Blue Bayou 
Didn't get fired so I got my $.75 backpay bonus for all hours worked at the end of the season. It was like $500. I made it rain at the candy store.
