Stop eating fast food. Start cooking more. Problem solved.

It really is this simple. You want chicken fingers, get 4 chicken breasts in a pack, cut them to the size you want, a little flour, some seasoning, cooking oil and a pan and you're good to go.

Make some salad, maybe a pan of Rice-A-Roni or mac & cheese and you've got a quick meal for $25 that will easily feed 4 people------and probably have some leftovers too.

Gotta learn to eat less. You don't need anything more than a chicken sandwich for lunch. Skip the fries and soft drink.

You are right. Gotta learn to eat less.
In my personal case, way way less.

I can consistently ring up $45 for a family of 4

I was a former manager at McDonalds in the early 2000's, and we would normally average 2-4 times that in an hour during non peak times. The busiest hours I managed were about 600 dollars. At 50 dollars an order that is only 12 orders, but for that 600 dollars back then we would server over 100 orders just to make 600 dollars.

Hourly Labor cost goal was about 18%.

Back then the Ice cream machine always worked and was only down for limited times when a major cleaning was needed or a part broke. Only problem we had was hiring back then it was the meager 5.25 an hour starting pay. I might have reached 6 dollars by my 3rd year and getting elevated to manager.

My favorite and hardest part of the job was scheduling an predicting how many people to schedule. Most times it was plug and play you knew how many empolyees you had and you scheduled accordingly people told you which days they needed off and what were their availability, also you had your regular closers and openers.

By 2002, they had upgraded the POS systems with intergrated scheduling so you could let the computer do it and base it on sales from years prior or a few weeks back. It was never right. I would still prefer to do it manually.

It seems to me, everything is relative. It’s not what fast food costs today compared to the cost years ago. It’s what fast food costs today compared to the alternatives. When you weigh your options and compare cost, availability and time required, fast food holds its place. It’s cheaper and quicker than dine-in most of the time and there’s one on every corner.

Where have you been? That’s cheap for a combo meal and to answer your question, people will ALWAYS buy fast food. Regardless of the price.

Prices, labor, supplies are thru the roof. I don't eat out often but dropped my son off at a school event and needed something quick to eat and all that was available was a Burger King. I got a meal that included a grilled chicken sandwich, fry and drink.

I work for BK and we only sell the Grilled Chicken Sandwich in 4 markets in California

You are quoting California prices which are hamstrung by the minimum wage hikes

Fast food is tough these days. Labor is up via minimum wage mandates and beef prices have never been higher. At the end of the day the franchisees still want to make money. We keep a close eye on franchisees who raise prices too much and aim to keep our GP % in the same ballpark consistently but its a sign of the times. Casual Dining places like Chilis and Applebees can sell menu entrees as loss leaders and make it up with alcohol, fast food can't do that.

Did you?

Seriously, we haven't had fast food in years. Going out to eat is an expensive disappointment.

However, we just discovered a newly opened Japanese restaurant that makes Onigirazu. Will definitely try this at home, but theirs are $6.95, which is pretty good for a freshly made "sandwich", with nothing deep fried/

Three strips, small fruit and iced water at chic fil a is under $10. Best I can do with fast food choice wise.

You can get a Double Del Cheeseburger and fries with water for about $8 at Del Taco or an El Big Box for about the same. The Double Del burger is vastly underrated, kind of a Big Mac without the extra piece of bread.
