Maybe so. I just don’t think you understand how much rent can be in San Francisco along with all the other cost of living factors

But, is that the difference between "making good money" and not? Seems a lot of different interpretations as to what that means. Personally, I see it as being able to enjoy at least a decent amount of luxuries and still have few financial worries in doing so.

There's nothing inherently wrong with having to live frugally and sacrifice a bit (as most people will do at some point in time), but that doesn't necessarily mean you're "making good money." You'd be "making okay money" then and hoping to reach a point where you're making good money.

I understand it just fine

someone making $80k isn't going to be living the same life in SF vs BR

but that doesn't mean they are broke

a $2k/month flat, which would have been crazy high even for that time in SF, would have you in a good place for living if you clear $5K per month.

$771K, absolutely. Are we talking just salary or total comp? Nevertheless, it’s a good chunk of change.

The term “consultant” is freely used around here

Yep, same as the word entrepreneur. My FIL calls himself a "marketing consultant". Him and another guy own a company that prints flyers, posters, hats, t-shirts, etc. for other businesses

After taxes? How would you be able to afford the F-250 and Jayden's travel ball expenses?

well I didn't say it was

but $80k still puts you above average even in places with absurd cost of living like SF, so it puts in well into "making good money" in 99% of places

if you honestly think 80k in San Francisco is "good money" to the average american, then I really don't know what to say

Talk to anyone that has lived there in the last 10 years and they will tell you otherwise.

The correct answer is 3 x monthly expenses.
Example:
1. Expenses = $2000/month, income should be $6000, so $78,000
2. Expenses = $1750/month, income should be $5250, so $68,250

Married with two kids and a $500k home. $150k isn’t enough to be cozy. That’s all I know. So I’d say $200k in Baton Rouge.

$200,000 a year with car notes, tuition, credit cards is not as valuable as $100,000 a year with zero car notes, zero tuition and zero credit card debt
