It's quarts. I fricked up

got it...that honestly sounds in linewith what I would expect, then.

at 9 quarts, it is going to take a quart or two over what they normally allow and using that synthetic oil is gonna come at a pretty good premium as well.

hopefully, you are changing every 10K or 15K miles like synthetic is designed for and just spinning on a new filter at shorter invervals....

Around 40 bucks for me. Semi-synthetic oil every 5-6k miles or so.

Out of curiosity, Is there an advantage for the full synthetic on a 10 year old SUV/truck? (Besides increasing the changing interval to every 10k miles?)

I like doing it myself because I can inspect the wheel suspension and the drivetrain and look for anything wrong with the undercarriage. I also rotate the tires myself and generally top the fluids off and change the cabin filter. I do all this every 10,000 miles.

And I bet your shite lasts forever and that when you do sell it you have no trouble getting top dollar for it.

My oil changes are free at the dealership. It's a pretty nice perk.

I hate when people treat this as gospel.

My jeep gets conventional oil changes every 5k and a new filter (and it could likely go to 7500 no problem).

My wife's 4runner gets 0w30 every 10k with a new filter (it could probably go to 20k on the oil without issue, no short trips, no stop and go, no revving past 3k rpm).

My xterra gets 0w40 every 3-5k and a new filter every 10k. (it has a 3 quart sump and I drive the balls out of it, and redline it more than I should when towing). Shears any oil down to nothing very quickly and you start hearing some cold start noise when it happens.

Oil change intervals depend on the vehicle.

My old subi would destroy the amsoil in 3k miles.

Oil extractors have one major flaw- they suck the oil up and do not remove all the sludge that settles in the pan,

ALso you when you do not drain from the pan you are not inspecting the plug to see if there are signficant metal shavings indicated engine damage

I use about 6 quarts of Mobil 1 full synthetic and a heavy duty filter (usually Fram). I made ramps with 2x12's to make it easy. It takes about 20 minutes of my time.

Around 35 bucks

That's why you drive the vehicle before an oil change. If there is "sludge" in the bottom of your pan that isn't getting carried with the oil flow then you have bigger probs. The local MB dealers use the extractors exclusively. I love my mityvac.

I drain my oil at operating temp.

You get really good at whipping your hand away from the drain plug

Oil change is usually anywhere from $50 to $80.

Then an additional $5000 when they forget to tighten the drain plug or put the correct amount of oil.

$35-$40 at Walmart or time-it lube. Sam Burn's dad owns most of the time-it lubes in Shreveport/Bossier. Plus the place that I'm employed at, gets a 10% discount at time-it lubes. Not worth my time to do it myself...takes less than 30 minutes going to these places.
