re: How much homeless/thuggery can FQ tourists handle?

I was in Nola a few weekends ago for my birthday. The homeless population is out of fricking control. It has always been pretty bad but it stuck out more this time as they were all over Canal. The city either needs to put them back in the tent cities under the interstate or ship them out. There is absolutely no fricking reason to ever allow them to sleep in jackson square. NOPD should administer beat downs for messing up tourism.

Oh, so you're still claiming you were driving on Royal then?

I still believe that is correct. Have I said otherwise?

Then you're still full of shite. That was fun.

You have the mind of a child

And you have the mind of someone that can't come up with anything better to defend his lie than repeat the same half-assed insult.

I'm not sure this is unique to New Orleans. I was in Denver last month and I was shocked at how many homeless people I saw there. And let's not even discuss SF, although that isn't exactly a new development. Are there really more homeless people now? Or are they just more visible?

New Orleans sucks for several reasons. There are bums everywhere begging for money. This past weekend I saw several nodding off on the corners of busy streets all fricked up on heroin or something. It's good for a day or two every now and then. Other than that, it sucks arse

There is no lie
and I'm sorry for insulting you, bad manners on my part, despite your rudeness

Who cares about the homeless and the rampant crime? It's those hateful racist statues that are a blight on the city and must be dealt with!

One of them asked "I bet I know how many kids your father had". Drunk me said I bet you can't and he said bet $20. Should have known it was a trick. Drunk me loves to gamble and so I took out a $20 bill. When I asked for the number he said your father didn't have any kids as in none literally came out of him.
That is so telling of the culcha. No father has kids. I know what he meant but to someone telling a joke there is always a nugget of truth.

I can't say I've ever seen anyone saying NOLA is awesome to visit because of its bums.
Maybe not, but I've never seen a city so proud of its local eccentricities as New Orleans. New Orleanians brag on some really weird stuff, from their parallel parking skills to the crust on their bread to, yes, the craziness of their crazies. I don't think it's any stretch to hear a New Orleanian say, "Yeah, they're bums, but they're just trying to make a buck. At least he told you a joke."

Can you find one example of someone saying that? I've never seen it online, and never seen anyone act like it in person.

Wow. That was hard. Took maybe 10 seconds.

The whole scam is based off of someone finding a panhandler "charming." Enough to pay them for it. Of course I can find examples of people who are okay with it, tolerate it, even praise it as a cultural feature of New Orleans. Come on, man.

Neither warning nor danger, I consider the "I betcha I can tell ya where you get dem shoes," trick more of a street act than a danger or something that warrants a warning. The act: For a rather nominal fee a man or a woman will offer to tell you where "you got your shoes". His response to his query? "You got 'dem shoes on your feet." A simple pun for a little fun.

I wouldn't consider the "shoes" thing dangerous. Just an easy way for a naive person to lose some money.

From what Ive seen its a way of saying hello before they hit you up for some cash... its sort of like a pickup line...

She stands up and says, "Now, can I tell you where you got those shoes?
On the bottom of your feet!"
Which she thinks is so funny. "Oh and that will be 10.00 for the shoes!
Oh my goodness!
Gullible right?
I fumble around in my purse and pull out a 10.
Yes, I gave her it to her. After all, we did fallen for her scam. I guess she deserved something for that!

We were talking bums, not hustlers. Good try though.

Agreed. I live in the Warehouse district and there are usually at least 3 of them within a block of the Rouses on Baronne every single time I'm outside.

Infinitely better than being a stray dog all alone imo.
I usually scope out the dog when I walk by these people and they seem decently taken care of (not too skinny, about as clean as their owner
