License plate sticker is about $40 for two yrs. Then window inspection sticker is about $20/yr.

Sales tax of 10% on cars is brutal. $50K car = $5K in tax

MISSISSIPPI - I paid $750.00 for 2016 Buick Enclave renewal for 2018. When I leased it in January 2017 and had it registered the fee was $950.00. So in 2 years I paid $1700.00

Prior to moving to Ms in 2014 I lived in Louisiana. I paid $4.00 per year for a handicapped tag regardless of the vehicle the tag was on.

In Mississippi I pay these high fees but you don't see things getting better - bad roads, bad everything.

MISSISSIPPI GOVERNMENT SUCKS. The people are alright, though.

$80. Before leaving the purple state I was in before, it was $400.

Got a little tired of getting screwed on a high state income tax rate and high fees every time you turned around.

$132 for a 2 year registration with specialty plates on a passenger vehicle in Florida. About $30 of that is the cost for the specialty plate. No inspections required.

Inspection is free in NJ. They also have private places you can go if you don't want to fight the crowds at the state places but not sure how much that is

Every state gets their money. La State Sales Tax avg is 10% - MS State Sales Tax on cars is 5%.
$40K car - La $4K - Ms $2K
Ms car tags more
La car tags less
If you trade cars every 4 to 5 years it probably works out fairly close.

Car registration here varies depending on the value of your car.

First year after I got my new jeep it was like $560 I think. After a car is 5 years old then you have to pass emissions testing every other year(costs like $30 to get the testing done).

Last year my registration was like $340. Unless you have to get emissions testing..you can pay it online and they just mail your new sticker to place on your plate.

On the upside...I don't have to pay to renew my driver's license anytime soon. AZ licenses don't expire until you are 65.

The amount you are referring to is actually a property tax. Vehicle registration is separate. Tennessee doesn't have income tax which is why it is cheaper.

Mine is $142 this year. No smog test this year. Smog is an additional $75 or $80. Idiots out here voted to increase registration. Went up almost 30% over last year.

That would mean that you live in a county that has a wheel tax and emissions testing...also, up $5 this year for the new IMPROVE Act tax.

In Knox County, it is $71 per vehicle for Title and registration. I think it is around $50 now for renewals...don't quote me on that.

BTW...the Improve Act adds $100 for electric vehicle registrations above the regular registration fee. The logic is, since they don't buy gas, they don't pay gas taxes.

That's not what the internets say.

Livingston Parish, Louisiana Sales Tax Rate Combined Sales Tax Rate 9% Sales Tax

Chicago sales tax is 10.25%, among the highest in the country.

Our registration is $101, and then each year we get to pay for a "city sticker" which is basically just a made up thing to charge people living in the city. That's another $86 a year.

Funny (or not funny, as the case may be) enough I just called for a quote before seeing this thread.

Over $900. How do people in one of the poorest states afford car tags in MS?

You don't have a choice if you want to drive. The most aggravating thing is you don't see where the money is going. Everything in Mississippi is falling apart. I live near Jackson and that place is a shame for a state capitol.

Greenville, South Carolina

Property taxes and tag fees all rolled into one

Try $1,087.53 boys (2017 Silverado LTZ)

You peeps don't know how good you got it.

Only plus is no inspection sticker needed. Guess they figure you don't have much left after the property tax rape....
