Again...that is pretty standard for cable companies. I think even satellite companies normally do 2 year contracts as well.

That's crazy. I'd never want to be in a contract for something like that.

MAYBE if I owned a home and watched a ton of TV. But I do neither of those things.

It's really not that big a deal though. If you move, you just bring your cable box with you. If you move to an area that doesn't use your current cable company(ex: some apt complexes) then I think that gets you out of your contract usually.

I just mean that I can't possibly guarantee I would want cable for 2 years. With how many people cutting the cord, it seems that many people get fed up and want to get rid of cable. I'd hate to be stuck in a contract if that happened to me -- whether it was due to money, me not watching enough TV, or some other change (like the drama between networks and cable companies lately).

Also.. If you move in with someone else, you can't take it with you if they already have their own cable as well. Either way, one of you is stuck buying themselves out. Yikes. Seems the contract is decent for someone who owns a home with no plans to leave, a married/cohabitating couple, or someone who is single and knows without a doubt they won't be moving in with someone else for 2 years

Close to $300. Probably more once all the crappy taxes are added.

Pretty Basic Cable/Internet with Cox ~$70

quote:

Fixed costs: $300 for DOCSIS 3.0 modem and 5GHz wireless router. $100 for Android streaming box $40 HD Indoor Antenna to pick up Fox, CBS, ABC, and NBC in perfect HD quality.

Nice set up.

These cost are not Fixed costs though they are Sunk Costs.

$61 for internet, $0 for OTA antenna, $12.50 for TiVo program guide, $7.99 for Hulu Plus, $12 for VoIP telephone, $21 for cellular alarm monitoring. I already had Amazon Prime for the shipping so I don't count that. I have four TVs total, all with DVR and program guides. TiVo rocks.

really is only reason I cut the cord. If I could get uverse I would cause of the rockets and Astros but other than that its not worth it

I called Comcast and it was 2 year contract with an insane "moving fee"

so I pay 65 slingtv and internet. I got hulu for 3 months free but I doubt I keep it.

180 with fees and taxes with Cox middle package cable with a few extra packs included and 100 mbps internet.

Ver similiar TV, but much better value in the internet switching from U-Verse to Cox.

Exactly. Cable companies are notorious for screwing people, so I would be too afraid to enter a contract with them during a time when I'm not married and do not own a home that I will be remaining in for a long time. For all I know, I could be living across the country in 2 years. There really is no way of knowing.

Nurse mentioned that moving out of their service area may void the contract, but honestly I'd be really surprised if they let you cancel the contract for free just because you chose to move. If they did, what would be the point of the contract? And how would they prove you actually moved out of their service area? Require copies of your mail from the new home? If you are renting and/or living with someone else who owns the home, there really is no concrete proof of residence.

I had Dish or Direct(don't remember which one) in Houston and when I moved to Lafayette they couldn't pick up a signal because I have trees where the satellite needs to face. Sons of bitches tried to charge me a disconnect fee since I was under contract like it was my fault they couldn't get a signal.

Yeah, that's kinda what I'm thinking. They can argue that we signed a contract knowing we might move and it isn't their fault we chose to move Shitty as hell, but not surprising considering what I've heard about cable companies.

Please explain how you are using TiVo. I have not heard about it in years and am curious as to what they now offer.

I am in the same boat. It's not worth the hassle of dealing with cable companies. Cutting cable has been worth it for the most part. Only a few sporting events have sucked.

If you can get a good antenna set up. You are golden with sling
