Just curious. I work for another one of the big companies here in the br/nola area and was just wondering if my employer is paying me what all the other companies are paying. Although I dont feel comfortable posting my salary, I would like to know what Jacobs pays their pipers.

That's a broad question.

The answer is... a bunch.

If you're really asking, the answer is that it doesn't matter. Things are pretty flat right now, not many people are hiring. Be happy you have a job and when things pick up, then worry about more money. Also, if you're in the Nola market, I've heard rates are less than in BR.

A lot more than most 4 year degrees earn.

I have an associates in drafting and design. I know it's not the best time right now but is there anyway to get into that?

If you're in BR, start sending out your resume to all the firms...

Jacobs
CDI
CBI
Hargrove
FBD
Wink

Not a good time, but you never know.

Yep. Most of those places will have online application sites. Send it in every couple months I guess.

I heard wink is hiring, but they are the only ones I know of.

Also, if you're willing to travel and work contract, there is always a market for shoppers. I don't know a ton about that side of it but putting your resume on sites like monster will start getting you calls. Another site that I think is more industry specific is road techs.com. might give that about shot.

I have a friend with a 2 year drafting degree that is currently a piping designer and he makes a killing. Granted, he has seniority in his office, being he's been with the company since day one. I hear now they only hire people with civil engineering, architecture and construction mgmt degrees.

If you were to talk to him he would encourage you to try to find a smaller company that would give you a chance and hope business does well.

Thanks for the heads up. I look pretty often but I don't really see anyone looking for entry level. I'll start sending them in more often.
