Don't forget to tip the salesman for all his hard work once the deal is done.

Bought my current truck (2017 Silverado LTZ , loaded) last day of November in '16. Sticker was just shy of 54K.
Paid 40K cash and drove it away.
I didn't screw with the salesman. Went straight to the Sales manager, told him the deal and gave him one shot at the best price.... no bs, no negotiating.
A good way to know someone is lying is when they say they paid cash and pretended to get the best deal. It's not 1995 anymore.
You leave massive rebates on the table paying cash.

Depends a lot on what you are buying. Just got a 21 Jeep Gladiator Mojave and best I could do was 6k off msrp. I did make them give good price on my trade in.

I’ve bought 19 or 20 brand new vehicles over the years. I’ve been took on some and I’ve made out like a bandit on some. Bottom line is get you a salesperson that has been in the car industry a long time. Build a relationship with that person first. Whether it is a salesperson, sales manager, dealer, owner, etc. DO NOT just walk up on the lot and start dealing with some schmuck that still has to write his own name on his business cards. Once you do this, they’ll deal. Don’t buy the product, buy the service and the gratitude.
For example, the last Silverado I bought, the salesperson agreed that I NEVER had to take the truck in for service. All I had to do was call a day before, and he would meet me at his house with a loaner - even for oil changes.
My other vehicles I recently purchased, I reached out to the salesperson online and told them I just wanted a deal. He was was on vacation, so he called the dealership and told them let me take anything I wanted home for a day to test drive. No questions asked. We already negotiated his commission before we talked price.
If you are in a large city or a dealership that does so much volume that is not practical, then research online what you want. TrueCar it and see the price. Figure out how much you are willing to pay, and tell them up front. If they laugh, walk out - they’ll call you - trust me. Just don’t offer 20k off sticker or some dumb shite like that.
Yes, I’ve been screwed over especially when I was younger because I had “truck fever” or Mrs Tiger came along and was enamored with a certain ride. If you take your spouse, just shop - don’t buy- they’ll want all the features that you can add (ie leather) later after you negotiate the price.
Never ever let them think you even want the vehicle and make sure they know you are looking around. But when you are ready, throw that number out there and see what happens.
61k sticker 49,990 will buy it all day long. So offer 48K.

I have a 2020 AT4 with the 3.0 Duramax. MSRP was somewhere just north of $66k and I ended up getting it OTD for a little over $54k. So about 12k even.
I called most dealerships within a 2-3 hour drive and the guys I ended up going with beat everyone pretty handily. It was in transit to the dealer for a few days and I ended up having to drive just over 2 hours to get it, but it was worth it. Trade in price and OTD price were all negotiated over the phone and I spent about 30 minutes in the dealership total.
This place was the closest thing to no haggle pricing I've ever seen. They threw out a price and pretty much said take it or leave it, no one will beat us(they did give me a mil discount, but it was through GM). They were right though, I called a dealership closer to home that already had the exact one I wanted on the lot and the salesman I spoke to there told me to wait on the truck at the other dealership because he wasn't coming close to that price.

For reference I bought a '21 GMC 5.3L Denali for $58k after dealer, and my corp discount. ($3k of 58 was for the tailgate Kicker speaker that I really wanted and extended warranty). I thought this was a fair price.

That is very subjective. $6000 could be an excellent deal or not

Where did you get the Gladiator?
