In about 1992 I was flying with my dad out to colorado and we landed in dodge city due to a be thunder storm. There were guys at the airport about to take off to go do cloud seeding. It was an experiment though the best I remember. Seems like iodine was involved.

Google Patents (Pat. # US5357865A) says it's from the early 90's

Releasing silver iodide into clouds has been done since the 50s. Someone recently proved it actually works.
