How many years before each of these isn't a thing anymore?

• Newspapers?
• People stopping and asking strangers for directions?
• House phones?
• Irreplaceable family photos lost in a house fire? Once a staple of news reporters interviewing people after their house burnt down, I have yet to hear this once while watching the news since the LA wildfires began. The world changes fast sometimes. Fascinating!

• Newspapers
Probably when the last of the boomers die off. And by boomers I mean actual boomers. Which is sad, too. I can still picture my dad reading the paper at the breakfast table in the morning. It’s also sad that there’s so much bullshite, fake news and editorial columns that make up papers now. Also, the writing seems to have gotten terrible now.

Probably never going to die off.

• House phones?
Aside from office phones, I don’t know anyone that currently uses a landline. So that’s probably dead now.

Never. I love having actual physical photos.

You waited to ask this today??? So fast???
Newspapers are very close to this.
Home phones have been disappearing for years.
Asking directions is also extinct.

I don’t think there is a daily paper in Memphis any longer.
You can still get a Sunday paper. But you can’t get in delivered.

I spent entirely too much time removing my land line jacks and patching the sheetrock over Christmas break in order to appease Mrs Rebel.

What's fascinating is how newspapers have become narrower and narrower with each passing decade. Men back in the 1960s had to have a 7 foot wingspan to hold that shite all the way open, and nowadays ewspapers are the same width as an IHOP menu.

Newspapers: in 12 years, print newspapers will no longer exist.
•People stopping and asking strangers for directions: I don't think this will stop entirely. Stopping at a gas station for directions? probably 7-10 years until the olds are no longer capable of driving. But there will always be situations, especially when travelling.
House phones: Can't believe some still have one. I'd say 5 years, but I'm probably wrong on this

I honestly miss the days when newspapers had good journalist and were a thing. They are gone in less than a decade.

This will never die and that is not a bad thing.

This will always be a thing. People will lose printed pictures and also digital media in disasters. Not everyone uploads there pictures to social media or cloud storage. I would think the fappening would enlighten some of you to not trust the cloud.

Fun fact: the WSJ was formatted with each story printed in narrow vertical columns so you could fold the paper and read it on commuter trains.

I actually enjoy the little local paper I get once a week. My wife and I work on the crossword together and it has little snippets about what’s going on in our town

I’ll sometimes get this situation
Customer: do you know where so and so is?
Me: no but just send me your address and I’ll find it
Customer: ok so if you go to blah blah and take a blah blah then blah, etc. You following me so far?
Me: yea sure but could you still send me the address?
Customer: ok good. So then from there you just go pass blah blah and you’re here. Got it?
Me: maybe but I know if you send me the address google knows exactly how to get me there
Customer: ok yea I’ll send the address over now

I remember when the Advocate changed from the old wide format to a narrower format in the 2000s.

I’m about to get a house phone. It’ll just be an extra cellphone that can’t text in the house, but My 7 year old isn’t getting his own phone anytime soon and he has friends sleep over and kids in the neighborhood. When the house phone shows up he can call his friends to make plans, etc. and when I run to the store and stuff he has a phone to call me and/or 911 in case of an emergent. House phones never should have gone away.

None of these are a thing anymore unless you're 80 years old

Reading the paper helped me pass Math by following baseball batting averages.

I miss a local newspaper. Growing up, one of my biggest thrills was seeing my name or my team in the paper. Mom always clipped the write-ups and put them aside. Still have some but most were destroyed in a fire. Anyhow I think it's just a few short years until the printed newspaper is gone forever.
As long as man exists we'll be asking for directions.
I'm surprised land lines still exist but we still have one. Cell service is spotty on a good day here in the hills of southeastern Ohio so we'll have one as long as it's still serviceable. This isn't the old AT&T dedicated phone line though. I think that's been gone from here for years although I still see old phone lines on the poles. Our house phone if through Spectrum now so when the power goes out so does the phone.

Add library and the people that work in them. I mean if budget cuts are coming. A building that is almost always empty holding many things that can be downloaded right to you.
