It's a crutch for fat, pathetic, unmanly betas. We live in a society where everything anyone could ever want is right at our fingertips and people still bitch. They need chemicals to help them cope. Men from the 1940s would call them an embarrassment.
Sure it's overprescribed but I did a short stint on them after I got back from Mosul after getting shot at, mortared, and IED'd for 18 months and dragging peoples hamburgered bodies from wreckage as a medic. Hard to function in society when every time a large truck drives by or plane flies overhead you flinch.

We created medical conditions and names for normal mental states and then demanded that those states be called abnormal and forced medication on people. We live in a sick twisted society and we’re so constantly bombarded with stimulus and overrun with noise we don’t even see how insane we’ve become.
A young boy who is energetic and active and doesn’t want to sit in a desk all day? Forget changing the education system or bringing back gym classes or correcting his diet or tailoring learning to people like him. Just shove pills into his throat so he sits all day like a zombie and suppress his every urge to be creative or different or energetic.
A young girl who has trouble handling her emotions and learning to cope and deal with changing hormones? Jam a bunch of pills down her throat so she can suppress her life and as a fun bonus she can now separate sex and intimacy from childbearing and rip that emotional connection out of her brain as well.
A young adult out in the workforce is unhappy with his life and craving a change? Jam a bunch of pills down his throat so he goes numb and cold rather than finding something that makes him happy in life.
Not doing well? It’s not your fault and there’s nothing you can do about it. You have a medical condition and there’s a pill for that.
Not feeling happy? It’s not your fault and there’s nothing you can do about it. You have a medical condition and there’s a pill for that.
Not feeling fulfilled? It’s not your fault and there’s nothing you can do about it. You have a medical condition and there’s a pill for that.
All those drugs you’re taking causing too many side effects? It’s not your fault and there’s nothing you can do about it. You have a medical condition and there’s a pill for that.
Everyone else is happy. Everyone else is healthy. Except you. And there’s a pill for that too.

That’s different. None of these people were shot at or in a warzone. If there was an actual study done I would want combat veterans a separate data point.

PTSD is a real, understood condition and certainly medications can, and do, help.
I know that from personal experience.

Way more than need to be
SSRIs (antidepressants) are good, many need them
But nobody should be on chronic benzos (Xanax, Ativan, Valium, etc). They are not helpful with anything used chronically. Thankfully most doctors don't give them out like candy as in the past, but still some bad ones out there.

A lot more than you think. I was at a medium sized dinner and the topic came up…I was the only person not on something at the table. It shocked me tbh.

It’s a lot. Also, tons of people take edibles/shrooms. But far fewer people drink alcohol or smoke.
It’s not working either. People are at a breaking point like never seen before all while quality of life is better than ever for most.

True happiness comes from Christ. Everything else is just an attempt to satisfy an emptiness you’ll never fill.

I think a lot of peoples brains probably misfire with the amount of shite they are exposed to with such rapid speed all day every day now. It’s not comparable to an actual war zone but there are likely a lot of folks out there with the constant stimulation causes some similar processes.
I just don’t think we evolved to handle 2024 level of information/connectivity/social media. It’s so different than the majority of human existence.
We always talk about manly dudes from 50 years ago but if I had to bet they’d probably have some similar issues in modern society and some current folks would do better in a less overly stimulating society of the past.

Human beings weren't designed for current styles of employment. I'm under just buckets of pressure at all times, but my work isn't physically demanding. I'm burned out so incredibly hard, and my doctor and I are trying to bridge the gap between the burnout and answers to fix the burnout. I'm working out, walking a lot, and trying to change how I work. I'm just hoping to feel better again soon.
