My wife is an accountant by training. Did that for a few years and hated it. Then taught for a few years, then became a homemaker while our youngest two were small. Now she’s heading back to school to do school counseling.

No, but it accounts.

I created a successful app, sold to Microsoft, now I spend my days on tigerdroppings defending New Orleans to a bunch of schmucks that live in DR Horton houses in Watson.

They build plenty of houses in markets like Houston and other areas too. My first house was a DR Horton special in Denham. There wasn't a 90 degree angle in the house. It was basically a trailer on a slab

This makes me feel better at my current lack of career. :)

I wish more employers were open to different backgrounds.

I remember seeing that one of the NASA control room commanders from the Curiosity Mission got his undergrad from community college in his mid 20s before he went to grad school.

Meanwhile, I see all the time requirements in job descriptions “you must have worked at least 5 years for company x or y to be considered” and all I think is what a fricking waste of talent

I did this exact same thing but at 36. How long did it take you to feel comfortable running the business?

I have a friend who started off with them post college as a PM, he ran away within the first month he started. It’s sickening looking at those neighborhoods they build.

Stopped farming at 29 to start law school. I've got one more year left. I don't really want to practice law at all, I'd like to farm again, just in Alabama. Might run a small one man shop for DUI and divorce for my good baws but I have no desire to actually do serious work.

Went from sales to an emergency room nurse. Took a pay cut but I work 4 in a row and have 3-4 straight days off. My boat is loving the attention! Wouldn't change it for the world. If I want to make bank, I'll get a Cali license and work the strikes.

Dude. How do you do that shite? Being a nurse seems awful enough to me, but ER work just seems traumatic. You have both my respect and my bewilderment.

To say that house was poorly built would be an insult to shitty contractors. My neighbor's homes were all pretty much the same too.

Honestly if you can't afford a home from a custom builder than you are probably better off buying an older home knowing that your maintenance costs will be somewhat higher.

No lie.

You can buy a 70’s style ranch in 40 year old neighborhoods like Jefferson Terrace and Tara that will last decades longer than anything dsld or dr Horton will build. They don’t make them like they use too.
