Wasn't displaced but did have two families stay at my parents house for 2-3 weeks in BR

Temporarily. My house didn't flood. My school did. I was a junior in high school at the time. I have family in North louisiana near Ruston and monroe. I went to school up there for about a month and a half or so.

I relocated with my job to San Diego for a year. Had an opportunity to stay in the San Diego area,but I came back to NOLA. Sometimes, in hindsight, I think I should have stayed in San Diego.

Houston for three days, came home to access damage, then split time between Mobile and Baton Rouge before settling in BR for a couple of years.

Gonzales for 4 days, then to Woodworth for 10 days... Finally got electricity back on Sept 16Th... Nothing compaired to what most went through...

A couple of my cousins stayed at my mom's house in Baton Rouge for 6 months before they could go back.

Little rock for 2 days (with a very sick 9 month old). Some of the absolute nicest people up the there btw. family stayed in laffy for 7 days with extended family. Had just moved from lake view the year before to Hammond. No flooding but all the trees down made it impossible to get home by car. Had to walk the last 2 miles or so. I dropped my family off in laffy and headed to Hammond. From Oneil east was blacked out. Got to my area and realized I was going to have to hoof it. No flashlight, crescent moon and a crap load of debris and trees made for an interesting walk. My office was at the foot of the causeway and got 10+feet of water. I relocated to Atlanta until roughly Christmas. My family stayed in Hammond bc my wife was working at Touro at the time. I commuted 1200 miles every weekend. And I had it easy.

I bet you got at least 5 speeding tickets in those 10 days.
Four days after Katrina I stayed the night at a friend's apartment in Tiger Land. Of course parking lot was full so I parked in the main lot with a note. My truck was full of stuff I had saved from my house.
Go outside to walk to Circle K and my truck is gone. I go to Riverside and have to pay $267 cash to get it out. The next day driving on the Interstate the back left wheel snaps off at the studs.
For this I will hate riverside and all tow truck drivers for life. I lost almost everything, then had to pay out that much to not lose it all. I almost snapped that night and am lucky I did not go to jail.
