I took it in 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th... made a 22 every single time

I agree with the rest of your post, but I'm confused about this part. What do most people think the test is? I figured they all saw it just as you said.

My son is as white as they come.
He made a 32 and has a 4.00 average plus extracurricular stuff. He's got a full ride to an SEC school and is in honors college.

Some kind of dick measuring IQ test. I know just as many burnouts with high scores as I do successful people with lower scores.

Since when do 7th graders take the ACT? I took the ACT as a senior, got a 26 and ended up at Arizona. BEAR DOWN

Well, it's that too, but maybe for 9 months. Then you get into college and start all over again with new dick measuring contests, and you may end up taking various versions of these (LSAT, MCAT, GRE, GMAT, just general college classes, Series 7, Med Step exams, CFA, etc) for the next 15 years

That does not exist anymore or I am getting ripped off. $2000 scholarship (Tiger Excellence) for the year and $800 stipend for the year. And TOPS does not pay full tuition even with high scores.

Probably since the 60s or 70s. My parents recall seeing a bunch of middle schoolers around the Research Triangle in the early 80s during the summer. So the Duke TIP program must have been going on in some form or another for a few years.
Nowadays, it's on a bunch of satellite campuses. Kids from Louisiana don't even have the option to go elsewhere now. I think they have to do the summer program in Natchitoches.
ETA: Just looked it up. First year was 1980 so it must have grown fast. And apparently they moved the TIP program out of Natchitoches too.
I do think the initial programs were much more focused on kids in the Southeast and Mid Atlantic than the West Cost.

As a 7th grader, my interests were girls and sports. Actually, those have always been my main interest.

I scored a 24 in 7th grade. I never gave a shite about school so I wasn't nervous or felt pressure. A lot of kids these days feel way too much pressure and score poorly, but are way smarter than when I was in the 7th grade. So, it really doesn't mean anything.

Lol, frick you! I graduated with a 4.1 and never used my degree. School can be way overrated for some. Knowing how to make money doesn't mean you are intelligent, even though I'm neither super intelligent and I don't have the gift of making tons of money.

I was in new jersey for 7th. Yes we took act. .then they sorted us into a, b c and d.
I was in a. They told us if we got a b in any 6 weeks we would be dropped to b students in that topic. It was the first time I felt pressure in school, knowing would be publically humiliated if i got a b.

Hell, I figured you scored a 188.

My niece got a 26 in 7th grade. She’s a senior now. Smoked the SAT (1590), and was disappointed in her 34 on the ACT. She got wait listed at every Ivy school as well as Duke and UVA. Solid extracurricular activities as well. She is going to UNC with a partial scholarship.
