Catholic Churches around me have plenty of real estate. They obviously don’t need my money.

You can just say tithe. It mean one tenth.

Nope, not in the last 4 years.

when I lived in Lafayette years ago I got into a little developing business with a friend, another friend was a realtor and knew where just about every piece of property for sale was in three parishes around us and its background, several pieces that we were interested in were owned by by little old ladies that had held on to the properties for years, mostly inherited through family and doubtful they even knew they owned the property or where it was, when we approached them about buying the properties they wouldn't discuss the property itself, they referred us to the priest, we actually had to go sit down with the priest several times, with each property to discuss who we were, our personal lives, what we wanted the property for, etc., the ladies wouldn't do a thing without running it by the priest, the priest even set the price

ETA: and the priest was almost certainly pocketing the money, or at least taking a "commission"

That is why I watch the videos of the late Dr. Frank Pollard on Youtube. Probably best preacher we ever had in Jackson. One of the best ones nationwide when he was alive and was on the Baptist Hour radio for many years as well. About 8 years of his weekly sermons that were televised are on Youtube. Says more in 15-20 minutes than these preachers that go on and on for 45 minutes. Heck, he'd even recite complete Dr. Suess stories, If by Kipling, or other literary works in the middle of the sermon.
Ol', Frank was a good one, but he was a preacher, not a doctor.
Never said he was although I'd call him a spiritual doctor. Watched a good one this morning. Took on the Mary's of Young Sheldon. Talked about how some take the fun out of faith and turn it into an excuse to enforce rules or be "heretic hunters." Do more harm than good.
I understand what some posters were saying about how some preachers spend money. They are supposed to be stewards as well. There are good organizations out there in your denomination that will be stewards of your tithe and help those who need it most.

I’m poor compared to the pastors, so no.

I don't believe in going to Church.
Most of the executive committee where my wife works goes to the same non-denominational church (she may be the only one who doesn't). We've went and I was instantly turned off by the band, dancing, and especially their belief that baptism and confirmation are for adults. I was raised in the Lutheran church (unfortunately the branch that has now gone as woke as Francis) and have a strong belief about the validity of both. I walked out mid-service and haven't walked into the building since. I love traditional services but in courting millennials it seems like they've become the exception rather than the norm in many northern non-Catholic churches.

None. Let organized religion start paying freaking taxes.

My parents tithed 10% from their pre-tax earnings my whole life. We attended ‘small town’ Baptist church in southern Oklahoma.. We were solidly middle class, not rich but had a nice home and cars.
I remember times the church would come to my dad asking for more when they needed it. Kinda pissed me off, knowing the church was full of wealthy retirees, drs and lawyers…but they always had their hands out knowing dad would come through, for the Lord and all that.

I don't. My wife does.
In my opinion, Churches should be funding elementary schools instead of building huge houses and church suppers.
I give regularly to Church Schools.
Jesus said, I came to remove traditions of men. We have just re-instituted or replaced those traditions with others.

Give what I can when I can. Since retirement , funds are less
. I don’t believe a hard 10% is the true spirit of giving. If I am wrong I guess I will answer for it one day

Use your eyes to see what your church spends money on. Some times you see they spend much of it on building, staff and off site conferences. If the church doesn't publish a line by line budget, you can rest assured they don't want to the congregation to know how tithes are spent.
A good way to give back to the community is to over tip. You are putting money directly into the hands of lower income folks, many of them single mothers, who are proving they actually will work.

10% to the good Lord via the church.

I give 10% of take home back in some form to church or charity. Sometimes a need in the community comes up and I help with that, or a friend loses a job and I help, and I give some to missions and my church. Sometimes I give more if something comes up but I have always been blessed with more money whenever I give. It somehow always comes back to me.

Christianity and Judaism tithing of 10%, Islam 2.5% (zakat) and Buddhism and Hinduism just emphasize charity and generosity activities.
Eastern religions are more efficient? Holy DOGE time for Christianity and Judaism?

You do realize the Catholic Church is the largest non-governmental provider of education and medical services in the world right?

Tough one, the Presbyterian church split bigly back in the late 1970’ s our lot went independent.
It’s fizzled and now with the PSA scandal and another split it might reform.
I might rejoin, but our presbytery needs work and make amends for that first break.
