Gross. I was told this by a pastor because "God gets his before the IRS". You don't subtract taxes, 401K, insurance, etc. So, if you make $120K a year, then you tithe $1K per month.

I tithe to the good Lord. My church is just the intermediary. They spend it as they deem fit, and if I think they may misspend I can object. We would discuss it out till all are satisfied.

Imagine if they had to pay taxes, bet that’d hurt their budget. Guess they’d have to pass the hat a fourth time during mass and call it an Uncle Sam stewardship contribution.

Imagine expecting your supporters should give you 10% of their hard earned income...just because...year after year...
It's kind of like federal income taxes, except less tithing, not forced, and the money is actually used in your community.
I don't do 10% but I'm much happier paying our church to keep up the mission going, compared to the federal government plundering my booty every year.

Does Jesus still love you if you don’t pay him? Never seen so many brainwashed loons.

Usually the church, especially the larger ones, will have specific funds you can contribute to. There is the Lottie Moon offering drive every year. There are children's homes run by churches or denominations. Can give to church without paying into someone's pocket.

I don’t know of anyone that goes full tilt 10%.

Morals aren't religious.

I don't give to my church because it's part of the ELCA synod so until our church breaks off they get nothing from me.
I DO give to people I know that have medical hardships that have a hard time paying their bills.

Churches should pay taxes. They’ve become full blown businesses and they flaunt it in our faces
There are a handful of churches that certainly and extravagantly flaunt their money and wealth but those are the honestly more of the exception. Most churches in this country are small and don't remotely have the massive budgets that some of the ones that grab headlines do.

I tithe some directly.
But the balance (and the majority) goes directly to an orphanage in Africa.

I don't understand this logic. We all think the government is wasteful and takes in far too much tax revenue as is. We should all be pushing back against the government and its tax policies, not advocating for them to take even more.
This doesn't even get into the majority of churches that are small congregations of less than 100 people.

I tithe to my church but I also attend the finance meetings, vote in the budget meetings, read the monthly distribution reports of how much money came in/where it went. If I didn't trust my church, I wouldn't give to it but then again, if I didn't trust my church enough to donate to it, I'd find another church.

Yep. I give to my church for a variety of reasons. One, I think and believe that generosity is a fruit of the spirit. I think having a generous heart is a good indication that your heart is not conceited and instead cares for others but even more than that.....
I give because of the times I've seen the church give scholarships for students to attend summer camps and mission trips they otherwise wouldn't be able to afford.
I give because I've seen the ministry partners in our city that derive a large portion of their budgets from the donations and support of churches like ours.
I give because of the resources I've been able to give to couples struggling with their marriage, miscarriages, financial woes, suicide, job loss, infertility, etc, all provided free of charge by the church.
I give because of the donations to local students and teachers in our community that include school supplies, uniforms, etc.
I give because of the medical bills I've seen picked up by the church that otherwise would've crushed families in our congregation when they are struck by a tragedy.
I give because I've seen a spirit of generosity in our church and as I said before, if I didn't trust my church enough to donate to it, I wouldn't attend that church.
