Live right outside of Eglin AFB, I hear F-35s all the time now. Occasionally a 22 from Tyndall, and sometimes 16s &15s.

I live about 6 miles from an Air Force base, regularly see C130, C5, Jstars, F15s on top of the many different helicopters. They don't bother me anymore but scared the shite out of me when I first moved here and one broke the sound barrier when I was cutting grass one day.

I basically live on a base.
When I have friends over, they'll ask how I deal with jets passing by all day. I honestly don't even hear them anymore. I miss the air shows tho. That was cool to walk out in my backyard and have blue angels flying right over my house when they were practicing.

The F-22's used to come occasionally. Talk about an absolutely beautiful jet. I miss them. Screw the F-35
Also, Osperrys are very very loud. We've had a few fly past. They shake your house.

They used to do this frequently here. But it's been over or close to a decade since it happened last.

I never slept better than when I had an AC-130 gunship circling my base overseas. After a day the idiots outside the base stopped shooting at us.

Close - F-16s at Shaw.

But, I prefer helicopters. Helicopters can actually help me if something goes wrong. I slept many good nights at COB Speicher with Apaches flying around. Like a baby in a crib.

Any parks or national forests near these airbases where one could take the family tent camping to enjoy the sounds of freedom?

Oh and best sleep ever? Aircraft carrier rolling through heavy weather in the Pacific.

Like getting rocked to sleep. God damn I miss it.

I've tried to explain this to people. I was on the Bon Homme Richard (LHD 6) with the 13th MEU. As much as I hated being on that ship I'd do anything for one more night of sleep in rolling seas. The air vent blowing on you, it was heaven.

Yeah, this one was W of Tucson and SW of Phoenix. A-10's and F-16's. You could hear that 30mm from 20 miles away

Well they wouldn't be circling the base if they weren't scared to get out over the water and tangle with the 15's or 22's out there waiting on them.

Air Traffic Controller so I can't say I have gone to sleep with Hornets cause I was talking to them. I love them river rattlers when they come in on a carrier break with closed traffic...

I have slept really peaceful when deployed overseas thanks to Barksdale AFB, the KCS Railroad and thunderstorms conditioning me.

LOL! I'll bet.

I lived in Shady Grove in 1969-70. I still have family there.
