Possibly.

How do you handle wanting to be alone but then getting chatty as things progress? For me that is usually between a second and third pint.

Meaning you drink alone and give zero fricks at a watering hole?

You betcha

When I left the Navy and became a 25 year old college freshman living in the dorms. Back then I did it almost out of necessity, now I do it because I enjoy it every so often.

I've been doing it since 23 or 24.

It's the best of both worlds, in the right bar. If you want to be left the frick alone to drink and reflect, you can do it. If you want to be social and talk with randos, you can do it.

Are you asking how to end a conversation?

I do this occasionally (last night, actually), but not often since I can't really afford to do so more than every once in a while.

When I did so more frequently, I found that it didn't take long to really get to know the other regulars and make some good friends. It's only really drinking "alone" for a short time.

There are no strangers. Only assholes you haven't met yet.

Or looking at it the other way, if all you're going to do is sit at a booth and talk to the 4 people you came there with, you can do that at home too!

No. You walk in wanting alone time, but as you drink you get chatty. At least I do.

I do sometimes. Just like meeting and talking to new people. If I'm out with others, I have to make it a point to include them in conversations, and I don't feel like it.

I'm 34, and have been doing it since all of my buds got married and had kids

Drinking at home alone can get old....

Sometimes drinking at home and it's just you and your wife and kids......

I'd rather drink alone at the bar

Oh, I gotcha.

Well, do whatever strikes you. You're allowed to change your level of social engagement.

For me, if I'm alone, I just sit at the bar and blast cigs looking at my phone/the TV for the first two or three beers, and then end up needing someone to chat up.

Yeah, I dont smoke and the bars I go to are non smoking....but it usually ends up after a few beers and if we're watching a game or highlights, short comments and conversations of whats on the TV will spark up......
