Anybody who has heard Up in Cripple Creek knows it. Also all Lucinda Williams fans.

I'm always surprised that people think NO is the center of the cajun culture.

I grew up in Nowhere Wisconsin, so I will provide the official answer. I knew the following (before hanging out on this board):

New Orleans
Baton Rouge
Shreveport
Monroe (due to working with a bank located there)
Lafayette (due to that Paul Simon song)

At this point, I’m not. I’ve had to explain the distinction between Cajun and creole enough times that I just assume now.

I travel all over the country for work and meet a lot of people. When I tell them I’m Louisiana 80% of them relate it to Nola. When I say, no, north Louisiana about half of those people will relate it to Shreveport. When I say no, NE LA, about half of those will relate it to Monroe. And mostly because they’ve seen it off I-20.

I would think Louisiana’s most recognizable cities to people from ~500 miles away are:

New Orleans

Baton Rouge

Shreveport

This question is probably somewhat of an age test. If you saw Steel Magnolias you know Nachitoches. If you saw any movies about Huey Long you know Winnfield.

When i travel i just tell people I’m from NELA, instead from of from West Monroe. They ask “how far is that from New Orleans?”

That said when i do mention West Monroe they will respond with a Duck Dynasty reference.

All Yankees think New Orleans and Baton Rouge are the same place.

They also think New Orleans is where you go for good Cajun food.

’m shocked when I travel the amount of people that don’t know what you’re talking about when you say Baton Rouge.

This isn’t shocking at all tbh.

For many people....the only city they think of from Louisiana is NOLA. It’s the only city from LA that has worldwide recognition.

The Media/Left say they are open minded but only think Louisiana is swamp, New Orleans, or now, duck hunting area.

Boisie is not a town name that I recognize in Idaho, and the last I checked Salt Lake City is in Utah.

you can be in Cajun country in 30 minutes from downtown, so let’s not act like it’s worlds away either

In Basic Training I had a Lieutenant Colonel ask me where I was from during an inspection. I told him Shreveport and he replied "that's a big Navy town right?".
