Seriously? If "G-men" have us scared to even discuss what we do legally to protect our families from violent crime we've got much bigger problems than gun ownership rights.

If anyone here isn't already aware, we are not required to register handguns in Louisiana if bought from individuals. I have no fear of buying retail, background check, etc., but I still prefer buying from private sellers. I love the individual freedoms we still have here and intend to use them. I was mainly curious about how many of you encourage all your family to educate themselves and how many get their kids, spouse, etc., in training classes. For me, proper handing, safety, etc., are my only reservations about handguns. It seems many today aren't taught as well as some of us were as kids.

I have several guns at home, but they stay locked up there unless I'm out using them. I have no desire to carry one around all the time. Too much responsibility. I'm comfortable knowing many responsible people at work carry.

What makes you choose that over other weapons?

(1) I love the feel. Its just comfortable to me.

(2) very easy to conceal in my inside-the-belt holster. When I'm wearing a normal t-shirt you can't tell it's there.

(3) The .44 hollow point has proven to be highly destructive with the first shot. In other words, it's got a good probability of debilitating on the first shot.

(4) Absolutly reliable. I know everytime I squeeze the trigger, it will send a round downrange and not jam.

I was robbed and nearly shot to death(the perps missed) in my home a few years ago. After that I carried openly when possible and in my car for about 4 months. After all the suspects were arrested I calmed down a bit and just concealed and carried at night sometimes but mostly kept my handgun in my car. I kept my shotgun loaded under my bed.

After my first daughter started to become mobile I bought a gun safe for my handgun. I keep my shotgun unloaded under my bed with shells nearby.Even with my own terrifying experience in the past I will probably never carry a gun around as long as my kids are young. I feel the chances are much higher that they will get hurt accidentally out of curiosity or even my own negligence than be a victim of crime. I have not decided how I'm going to address gun safety with them yet.

I served 7.5 years in the Army, so I'm familiar and quite capable....

But I haven't shot a gun since. I've never felt threatened to the point where I needed to own a gun, ever.

I do not have a concealed carry because we have open carry and can carry in our cars. I stress safety, train and reinforce safety with friends and family regularly. I don't shoot enough, but am competent. I read laws in any state where I have a weapon and if stopped by a police officer always make him aware of a weapon on my person and have hands in view. I have pulled my weapon once in 30 plus years of carrying, never fired.
So yes its a right we have as Americans and a great responsibility that I take very seriously. I thank my father for teaching me how to act around weapons and to handle them like they are supposed to be handled. Never one negative incident in all these years.

A shotgun is by far the best weapon a person can have against home invasion.

You do not need a pistol or high powered rifle for that.

Whatever shotgun you use for hunting is perfectly fine
