I don’t get all out drunk anymore. Buzzed is about and far as I can go.

had about 15 beers Friday and didn’t eat much

Always makes things 100x worse that night and the next day.

I absolutely hate when I don't get enough to eat before I go out drinking with buddies. I've been known to disappear to go eat bar food or a food truck during the night.

The OP should read the book alcohol explained and also this naked mind if he wants to understand the true impact of alcohol on you physically and psychologically.

Personally I believe if you are pounding 15 beers and 7 shots you need to get tested.

take 4 advil...before bed

I learned this about 7-8 years ago. Guaranteed not to wake up with a headache. Works like a charm. I typically will do that, then when I wake up I'll take a hot bath, then take a nap for about 3 hours or so. After that, I'm usually good to go.

If I forget the Advil, I'm probably fricked until the afternoon.

Can’t recover if you don’t stop drinking.

5-6 jello shots

Last time I remember having jello shots was at a party for the 49ers/Ravens Super Bowl. It was all Niners fans so we went all out, and some girls made jello shots just make things more festive. I swear I must have had 20-30 of those things, plus all the beer and whiskey I drank on top of it, and I was in pretty good shape for most of the night. I still have a conspiracy theory that the chick made them non-alcoholic, either through cheapness or for our own safety.

All three are steps in my process and work great.

The issue I'm facing is having a 12 week old at home and I can't just take naps randomly on Sundays anymore

psychologically.

this is the part that is so hard for me. I struggle with anxiety/depression, am on an SSRI, but I also love getting fricked up from time to time. When I do, my depression/anxiety is way worse for as much as like 4-5 days following a really hard night.

edit: but i've also noticed that it's much worse the following days if I smoked weed that night along with the drinking.

Exactly. Too much focus of alcohol abuse is on labeling people alcoholics or not alcoholics... The focus should be on the alcohol itself and what it does to people. There are serious physical and psychological issues caused by alcohol. I'm just saying... Most people don't stop to do the research on exactly what alcohol does to you. I'm thankful that I did the research and it changed my perspective.

Oh I know it fricks me up mentally and physically.

I take time off to heal and then do it all over again.

I find it worth it, to be honest. Its fun as hell, tastes great, and life is short.

ETA:

As a 30 year old, I definitely think about how it affects my family and job and if I ever thought it was affecting either negatively, I'd just stop. Hasn't ever gotten to that point yet.

I don't pound them like that anymore, but if it's a bad one Friday night, Saturday is totally screwed, Sunday I'm sluggish and still tired and Monday I'm typically back to normal.

Agree with others though, there are anxiety impacts and the like that can linger. Part of that is probably because I do it less now so I feel shittier about it when I do. I'm finally getting to the point where I'm like "I want to feel good on Saturday and Sunday, so maybe don't slam beers for no reason Friday."

Honestly, short binge drinking I can shrug off (a bunch in 2-4 hours). It's the big game days or whatever where it's half the day that really screw me up for the following days.

My fav genius story about jello shots: My mom used to know a woman who made non-alcoholic jello shots and sold them to underage kids around the route. She never said there was booze in them, just that they were jell-o shots. The dumb arse high school kids saw she wasn't carding anyone and bought tons of them and proceeded to act drunk AF...she profited

Good for you. A lot of people who have drank regularly for a long time never stop to consider why they are really doing it. It is an addictive substance plain and simple. The problems can be deeper than just recovering from a hangover every once in a while.

Brilliant.

I wonder if it is technically illegal?

You can sell "grams of white powder" that is baby powder, but you never say what it is, and you can go to jail for selling drugs.

Apparently it is not. She had a cop stop her and be like..Ummm ma'am.. you know how illegal this is right. These kids are clearly underage. She explained what she was doing. That she was just selling small shots of jello...if someone mistakenly assumed there was alcohol in them that was on them. Let him have some etc. He laughed and left her be

I think in my age group (late 20s-35 or so) there are a lot of guys who develop part time "alcohol problems" who probably aren't alcoholics. Meaning, they're productive members of society who don't have a chemical dependency but enjoy drinking and occasionally try and reenact college life with bad results. Stuff you'd do weekly at 22 isn't so cute at 32, even if it's far less frequent.

Puts strain on relationships and the like, but probably doesn't bleed over into work, etc. I think part of it may be that people are waiting longer to have kids, which means professional guys in their early 30s are living like post-college couples for longer than it is probably healthy to do so.

FWIW, I'd probably put myself in this category and most of my friends really improved their drinking frick ups once the kids arrived.
