How long will the "friends, food, and family" effect keep natives in Louisiana?

I wonder how many folks born and raised here miss out on opportunities elsewhere (personal and economical) rather to stay here in LA their entire lives?
Roads, education, and healthcare are absolutely abysmal in LA. Yet, so many stay here for "culture", and the big one, family.

It didn't keep me there after LSU graduation. I think we'll continue to see an exit of educated individuals due to the lacking career prospects.
So in short, not long.

I left and don't miss it. I mean, as much as I love poboys and king cakes, it's nothing to plan my life around.

Life is great in my part of Louisiana.
Sucks to be poor I suppose.

I will move to Texas right now if my company needs me to. It might happen soon

You see...Mexicans figured out you don't need to stay in Mexico to eat tacos.
Last time I checked, jambalaya, king cakes, and poboys can all be made outside of the state of LA.

I stay mostly for friends and family. Most of my friends are lifelong buddies and those can't be replaced. Practically all of my family is in the area. Food is a bonus but not that important since I try to eat healthy.
I'd head west if I could get the gf to go with me.

Actually, New Orleans is one of the top brain magnets in the country.

ETA: That said, all of my family and friends are down here, but I am in a fantastic position economically speaking, with a great career situation.

Considering more industrial plants are opening/open here than probably anywhere in the country I find this hard to believe. Not everyone is a business grad.

I don't have any of the problems you've mentioned
my kids go to a great school
I have a great job and make plenty of money
never had problems with healthcare
friends and family are just a bonus for me

Yeah the food definitely loses some of the staying power if you can cook well.

Roads, .... healthcare
Are the same elsewhere. The country has in infrastructure challenge and healthcare is a federal mandate.
I left at 22 and return once every two years

The poor education is the problem. People are too stupid to leave.

Where else is there to go? Texas- The roads are better, but then you have to live in Texas surrounded by Texans. The grass always seems greener elsewhere, but it seldom is.

All this.
I don't get the healthcare comment the most. What can you get in other states that Louisiana doesn't offer?
Roads? No one moves to a place because of their sweet roads.
Education? I'll give you that one but some of us don't mind paying for school. Even if I lived in a place with great public schools I'd still send my kids to private school.

Can be a great place, but is extremely unique and isn't for everyone.

Neither am I, but the idea of working in a plant/refinery wasn't appealing as I'm sure it isn't to many others.
