Are people really paying this for one kid?

Sheesh, In Atlanta? And I thought my $36k a year for my two was a lot in Austin suburbs

Why do you think young adults are having less kids? It’s a huge financial pressure. Combined with a mortgage being ~4K these days on a 400k home and you’re truly crippled

Well, we’re lucky (I suppose). In Mobile, it’s $350 a week for two ($18,200 a year). Sometimes, that feels like a lot until I’m reminded of those Atlanta and Texas averages.
As for the waitlist, I had to pay the entire fall semester for an unborn child, just so we’d have a guaranteed spot in the early spring. That was kinda weird.

OT tells me today’s young people are just lazy and selfish

3k after tax is like 4K pre tax that’s 48k salary just for daycare. Imagine rent food car insurance etc and minimum to just live has to be 80k. That’s beans and rice, no retirement, and def no house

Yes. Less than a year after moving them, price went up $5k total too. Pretty crazy when private school is actually cheaper

When my son was in kindergarten I got a call from a local daycare that he finally made it off that waitlist we put him on when he was one when we moved. Geez, thanks.

Are people really paying this for one kid? That's equivalent to a decent house payment....Forget having kids these days if true.
That’s where a true tax rebate should occur: Working families paying for child care and not unemployed deadbeats popping out multiple children.

My daycare will send a price increase before the bill hits the president’s desk

Local daycares that your wife has heard about from friends all have a 6+ month wait and cost 2-3k a month
FIFY.

Doing applications and interviews 1.5 years in advance right now for pre k. If Junior can get in looking at about $1k a week

Our neighbors had their first kid last year. They were wait listed for six months before the kids was born and still didn’t get an opening. They ended up having to send them to a Montessori school instead which is even more expensive.

My ex owned a daycare.
Rent, salaries, food costs, insurance, government regulations, etc eat into that gross revenue.
Complaining parents about every insignificant thing takes a toll.
The parents of one of her students thought she was making big money and offered to buy the daycare. She sold for a tidy profit and got a job running a daycare at a parochial school. She made less money but health insurance, 401k made up some of the difference. And she says it's more of a community, the families go to church there, older siblings go to school there, so it makes for a better work environment.
And the couple that bought from her had the daycare for about six months and sold it. It was not as easy and lucrative as they thought being absentee owners.
