I've actually never had this happen.

Then once they get you in the back room you gotta wait some more.
It's like why the hell did y'all call me to come back here if the doctor still isn't ready to see me?

You'll wait as long as you're told to wait. He's a fricking doctor, do not question his methods.

Guess you don't need that Vicodin that much after all

Depends on why I'm there. Something like you said, a checkup or something non-urgent, I'll wait maybe 30 minutes after appointment time.
If I'm sick or need drugs, I'll wait as long as needed....But I will let the receptionist know about it....often.

Most doctors I see make me pay the copay up front
A friend of mine doesn't put up with this sort of shite. After 15 minutes he goes to the desk and demands his copay back. After a shocked look they might say they can't do that, and he informs them he will contest the credit card charges for failure to provide services. Then they say wait a minute, then take him to the examination room.
I don't make appointments for my GP. I show up in the morning first thing and tell them I need to see the doctor and am catching a plane in an hour or something like that.

I'm there when they open, and all I need is to refill prescriptions (no opioids). I refuse to make an appointment then waste an hour to see the doc for 5 minutes.

I almost did the same thing the other night in an emergency room. If i would have been there for me I would have left. But the kiddo needed a flu test.

If they won't give a reason I'm out 30-40 minutes after appointment time.

would you rather they rush through every patient?

Any other business that makes you wait longer than 10 minutes for a meeting is considered rude and unacceptable.
1. A doctor's appointment isn't exactly the same as a business meeting, and if we treated it the same way, you'd be bitching that doctors are

treating customers like shite.
2. In just about every other type of profession, the meeting isn't where the money is earned. Doctors only make money when the patient is sitting right in front of them. Your CPA, lawyer, financial advisor, etc want you in and out ASAP so they can actually go to work for you and make their money.
3. If everyone showed up for every appointment or cancelled in a timely fashion, wait times would be less. Doctors overbook because of #2 and no shows.
4. Some doctors really are rude and inconsiderate of wait times, and could do much better. Maybe yours is one of those, but in all likelihood, there are things going on you don't realize that are causing your wait time. If wait times are a significant problem for you, I suggest looking into a concierge type practice where you pay a monthly fee for access to the MD whenever you like.

one doc I go to knows I play guitar and he fancies himself as the medical Eric Clapton, built a recording studio in his house, when I go see him I never wait, he gets me in, does what he needs to do and takes me into his office to regale me with his latest recording or newest guitar, his office manager comes in about every 10 minutes to try and get him to see his patients but he'll get to them when he feels like it
another guy I see knows what I do for a living and once he sees me that's all he wants to talk about, sometimes it takes an hour to break away

but kaiser has no wait usually
This. I had my annual physical yesterday. Doctor was running a few minutes behind but they got me in did all my vitals and let me know what was going on. Rarely do I wait for my scheduled visits.
Really don't care if I do. I understand that stuff comes up they can't control and just roll with it.

Dr. Smith must read the OT.
I saw the Dr shortly after starting this thread. I'm glad I waited. He was very thorough and seemed genuinely concerned about my well being, unlike my previous PCP. Not gonna lie, but it was sort of weird seeing a dr younger than me. I'm 33 and he's 32.

Millennial doctors, that is going to blow some old people's minds on here.

Get used to it, that is the reality of healthcare in countries with "universal healthcare" and that is going to continue to be our direction in this country.

Likely why he was late. I'm sure this board won't believe me, but for PCP's and E&M based docs, packing a schedule tight with back to back 15 & 30 minute (or less) appointments is necessary to remain profitable enough to continue operating. When you have a "good" physician that gives you the time you actually need, it's going to create delays for everyone else. The only alternatives are pushing you in and out at 30 minute increments no matter what, or not scheduling enough patients to maintain operations.
Unless your Kaiser, or Methodist, or Oschner, etc... and can negotiate high enough reimbursements on office visits to maintain a sane schedule. But most docs can't do that. Your office visit will pay $50-$170, depending on how its billed. And there is alot that goes into that appointment other than the actual doctor visit. Until PCP's are paid properly and become more plentiful, this is the way it will work.
