Been two weeks and nobody has asked for it yet. Can't wait to wipe the drive and put a copy of Windows 7 on this bad boy.

Surprised they haven't. An ex-employee with a company laptop with company data on it is a huge risk.

In fairness I genuinely forgot about it. It was in my truck and I never used it considering I had a desktop in my office.

I think there's a bit of a difference between stealing something that cost $20 as opposed to $400.

Depends on the State. You can still $900 worth of goods/merchandise per day in California and they will not prosecute.

As long as you are prepared to pay the invoice they are going to send you for a replacement, then sure.

And if you worked for my firm, you'd be carrying around a useless brick right now.

Well, if the laptop is only worth $20, then maybe he did them a favor.

Corporate assets are depreciated hard.

Of course, the company can always appreciate a spare laptop for emergency.
And maybe they may need the laptop more today with chip shortages.

But under normal conditions, it wouldnt shock me if a company doesnt care about a 5 year old laptop (other than maybe confidential/proprietary info stored)

Same scenario happened to me.

I called them up and they said "send it back." I said, send me a call tag as I am not paying to ship it.

They said "just keep the damn thing."
