I sure wish I got one. I always owe money and it pisses me off so badly. I hate giving even more money away at tax season

I'll owe something like 10-15K.

I had to pay 2k this year. Most pissed off I have been in a very long time, in writing a check that gets me nothing in return at all.

I'm filing in October. I typically get back around $20k. I am on an overseas assignment and my company pays all my taxes for me. I signed my contract before my divorce was final so they did my tax calculation without including my maintenance payments to the ex wife which are tax deductible and I used Colorado as my home state for the calculation. I changed my home address to Florida after the contract was signed so I don't have a state tax obligation.
I'll invest and put some in my offshore account and probably take a nice vacation to someplace new.

I was in the same boat which was why I was so keen on going back on an international assignment. Not having to pay taxes is brilliant. Plus I recoup a bit of the money that goes to my useless ex wife while she has to pay taxes on my payments.

Got back $1150
Then got a letter saying that I now owe $7200 for 2015. Not sure why yet, but it looks like they arbitrarily decided to not allow deductions that I took, including a deduction for mortgage interest and tuition for my wife.
Since this mistake on their part increased my taxable income (by about $20k) they also hit me with a $1200 penalty for under reporting my income.
I know this is a mistake that will eventually be resolved, but frick the IRS for trying to give me a heart attack with that nasty letter.
