How is Knoxville for young professionals?

A good friend is considering moving there for a job. I've never set foot in the city. Is it a fun city for non-college students?

Had some friend evacuate to knoxville for Katrina. The guy worked off shore and actually considered staying there and driving every two weeks. Said it was a great place to live.

Have a buddy that lives there. I think its an extremely underrated city. Good food, decent industry, good golf around there, plus I am sure the river offers plenty to do.

Love Knoxville, it's a great city. Doesn't have the best downtown though if you want to party all the time. If you love the outdoors, it has plenty to do.

I lived there for two years. Outstanding place for young professionals. There are jobs in the engineering sector, as well as business and education. The food scene is pretty awesome for non-Cajun food. OliBea's breakfast place is the best around, and the downtown is actually improving with the Market Square area moving new bars in.
As was said, it is a great place for the outdoorsman with the Smoky Mountains near by, whitewater rafting, fishing, skiing (water and snow), etc.

Knoxville is underrated it's close to Nashville and Atlanta and Charlotte. Great outdoors area growing craft beer community and getting better restaurants monthly. Only negative is the airport and lack of flights making it expensive. It's more than a college town but UT certainly helps as an anchor.

I grew up at the halfway point between Lexington and Knoxville on 75. Haven't been in years, but for shopping, nice dinners, etc. my parents usually choose to drive to Knoxville instead of Lexington. It's a beautiful place.

I loved my visit there. Whole area of the country is beautiful. Almost moved to johnson city, but that was too small for me.

I live in Knoxville and think it is a great place. It has a little bit of everything and you are in close proximity to many different cities and destinations. What most people don't realize is that Knoxville also has one of the lowest costs of living in the country.

I am not a fan of Nashville. Much rather East Tennessee over that mess. Better outdoors and less traffic. I don't party, so the bar scene is not a factor. Nooga's downtown is good enough for me. It's a toss up for me with Chattanooga and Knoxville, my wife prefers Knoxville due to family. I like being 90 miles from them to be honest.

YUP! Lived in Knoxville for 5 years and that is really my one and only complaint about the place. The allergies were horrible! But you're a three hour drive at most from just about anything you could ever want to do, the area is beautiful, and the cost of living isn't bad.
We moved back to Louisiana once we started having kids to be close to family, but I could definitely see myself ending back up in Knoxville again.

Clannish.
Nice folks, but not the smartest state.
The geography is pretty but the city itself is ugly.
Cost of living is low because nobody wants to stay there.
Conservative, religious.
Crime is growing, meth capital of the south.
I lived there, went to school there over 20 years, left and would never go back. So many better choices, imho.
