I remember a couple of years ago the licking the ice cream craze that some assholes participated in.

Took me while to buy ice cream again.

I don't blame you for being cautious.

what happens when those preparing food for you don't do those things? That could happen at home with your spouse, party at friends, restaurants etc?

When you buy a bunch of grapes, there are always a few empty stems where people snuck a few at the store. People with dirty, disgusting hands that have been doing unspeakable things.

Have you ever noticed?

We get our grapes at Costco. I never see any missing grapes.

Eh, the way modern stock boxes break the safety seal automatically is unnerving to me. IDK why the change was needed, and I don't like it.

I saw a homeless guy in Albertson's at Airline and Old Hammond eating out of the bulk bins of trail mix and dried fruits. He was sticking his hand in the bins, grabbing handfuls, and chowing down. I informed the manager on the way out. I notice they don't have those bins at that store anymore.

I think COVID finally did that practice of open containers of product. I remember going to the Whole Foods on N. Broad St. many years ago and they had big bins of several varieties of beans that you just took a scoop and filed a bag to weigh.

Even then I thought it a bad idea and stuck to buying Camelia beans at Rouses.

a jar of pickles that didn't pop upon opening, and a water bottle that felt like it opened just a little too easily and without a visible tamper band.

Botulism (expanding cans) was a thing. But it's not like people pissing on coke bottles behind a restaurant in the PI, where you were always advised to use a wrapped straw to drink anything.

There's almost nothing actually occurring. Like pregnant chicks that won't eat lunchmeat because of salmonella risks based on their social media feeds, you get more programming. Salmonella in produce has killed far more people than salmonella in meat products since the 70s. But nobody worries about the onions.

Mustard? Pickles? You've mentioned multiple foods that are preserved to hell by their inherent acidic or salty qualities. Does your lizard brain understand that salt, for one, kills bacteria by just being ... salt? I don't want boogers in my mayo either, but every bit of produce you've ever bought has had a hundred hands of people that wiped their arse with that hand, put it in a box, wiped their nose when they were putting it on display...

Before my grandmother was diagnosed as senile, we didn’t know how bad it was. I got a call from the grocery store manager asking me to come pick up my grandma and pay for all the pecans she’d eaten walking around the store (and throwing the shells on the floor.)

What a wimp. It’s not like people are licking your ice cream or anything.

Oh wait

busted. No I wouldn’t do that. But I did buy grapes last night and this thread was still in my head. Grabbed a bag from the back. But then I thought, no that’s exactly where I would put the bag after I grab a few. But seriously why can’t they just sell bags with small breathing holes.
