How does a Japanese car company understand the American car buyer so well. Every single car they make is amazing. And especially their trucks and SUVs look so good.

Yet, they can't seem to fix this:

Marketing - They convince us of what we "need"

I hate those low SUVs that are built on a car chasis, like the middle picture in the OP. I can't think of them as anything other than a station wagon.

Fwiw my master mechanic friend who worked at a Toyota dealership for 6 years said they started cheaping out on a lot of the models in 2018. I drive a Camry and love it, but it's a 2017

That might be the Tundra chassis

Does the SUV have the V6 twin turbo exploder 2000 engine?

I actually got a call from a local Toyota dealer this week.

"Hi Mr. Tyger, our records show you have a Toyota Tundra with the 5.7 liter V8 gas guzzling engine. I'm excited to offer you an incredible deal on a trade in package we are running. We can give you top dollar for that old 2020 and put you in a new Tundra for a super low price!"

I told the guy "I bought the truck in January and specifically bought a model with the 5.7 liter V8 engine because I don't want that shitty V6. I wouldn't trade in my truck if you offered me an even swap."

The majority of newer cars today are just compiled of cheap plastic.

And almost all of them have highly untested powertains that were rushed out to meet new fleet CAFE standards.

Is this the engine Lexus put in the new GX too?

I actually really like the look of the new GX but am weary of a turbocharged V6

Agreed, but get the 2023 GX with the naturally aspirated, tried and true V8.

I’ve been looking at used GX or Land Cruisers.

I found a 21 land cruiser with almost 60k miles that was priced higher than the brand new land cruisers. Crazy but I guess people love those Toyota V8’s

I’m kicking myself for not buying a LC years ago. As I’ve gotten older all I care about is reliability now.

The only two current Toyotas that I think look good are the Crown Signia and the Rav4. Everything else is pretty unappealing looks wise.

The Sequoia is built on the same chassis as the Tundra

I really really hope that Trump rolls this sh*t back to a much more realistic requirement that strikes a better balance between cost, environmental concerns, and reliability.

its getting a little nuts.

Let's start by getting rid of the automatic shutoff feature on cars. Fools us into thinking we're getting better gas mileage at the expense of 1000's of extra engine starts over the life of the vehicle.

Yes. I have 11k miles on mine and no problems yet. Not sure I want to keep outside of warranty yet.
