How does society benefit from releasing feral cats back into the wild?

I am talking about the trap, neuter, and return program where feral cats are intentionally let loose back into the wild after being caught.
Outdoor cats slaughter billions of songbirds, amphibians, and small reptiles.

Maybe, but a few extra mice aren’t worth the destruction of useful, native wild animals IMO.

It's helpful if they aren't foreign invaders.
In Australia, domestic cats that were abandoned found their way into the wilderness and have caused significant damage to the ecosystem (they aren't native to Australia).
I know it sounds silly, but cats are incredibly formidable predators. A domesticated cat has as many as 150 natural preys.

We have about 5 in our quiet condo complex. They are friendly and welcomed. We adopted one a few years ago and got his vaccinations and all done to be an inside cat. He doesn't come inside much unless it's cold. When Jones and LL lived by us, he would often stay inside their condo as well. Our community cats are awesome. But the program is probably a lot more successful when they are welcomed by a community/neighborhood

I dated a vet for about 5 years. She was involved in that program and I said bullets were cheaper. It was our biggest fight lol

spot on. the same thing is true of feral dogs. they don't belong in this ecosystem. why is it fine to kill feral hogs and nutria due to the problems they cause but when it comes to cats and dogs people freak out?

The neutered cats keep the others (intact)out of their territory. And they eventually die in 6-10 years. Cats multiply like crazy.
