The issue is they are in Everglades National Park and wildlife management areas and other nature/ public areas. You can’t just allow people with guns to roam around looking for them to shoot, the general public is stupid.

I don't know if you know this, but there are hunting seasons in wildlife management areas and other nature/public areas all over the nation. People allowed to roam around with guns, looking to shoot animals. The general public is stupid, but so is your post.

Air rifles like the iguanas in south FL. Iguana hunt

Lol, I’m well aware. And guess what, during those seasons you can…shoot pythons.

ETA: I’m regards to the air guns with iguanas I’m assuming the regs are the same. A lot of those people on like YouTube shooting iguanas are not exactly shooting them legally. I’ve seen them shooting high powered air guns in neighborhoods with very unsafe shots. So it’s pretty much the same thing.

Again, I’m not against it. But I do know that people push the limits and break the law so you give them an inch they will shoot everything.

Constrictors don’t eat you alive. They def strangle you first, to death that is. So, you are dead, not alive when eaten.

It should be open season year round so we can keep Troy Landry and Pickle here taking them out.

Hold a python olympics every year, and ship about 100,000 of the illegal immigrant crossings that year to the Everglades. Equip each immigrant with a machete. If you come away with a dead python head, turn it into the authorities and get citizenship. If not, you have to go back.

It’s kind of like the military draft that real Americans had to go through, except now its with benefit-seeking Americans and all they have to do is kill a snake. At least it incentivizes something. I know, I’m crazy.

Current regulations say you have to catch the python live, by hand and dispatch it later. That alone will eliminate a lot of people from even trying to catch pythons.

This regulation is a prime example of how stupid government regulations have become. What is the benefit of capturing the snake then killing it as opposed to just killing it?

Many of the areas the snakes live in are inaccessible to foot traffic.
And the NPS is not about to allow Swamp buggy's and Airboats run all over a National Park.
I lived in the Glades for many years and I don't think they will ever get rid of them.
Pretty cool to sit in your deer stand and watch a 10 ft. snake crawl on by.
I've ran over a few in my dirt roads at night and my neighbors Chicken coop is a big draw to them.

Also release about 1,000 non violent “Flordia men” from prison

Not true remotely true. I know several baws who have killed plenty of pythons. Only restriction is you can’t like torture the things. Have to basically get it in the head and kill it (shoot it, stab it, etc). Also no limit on commissioned land or private land as long as landowner allowing you to be there. They’re just not overly easy to find a lot of the time.

quote:

Members of the public may not transport pythons alive and must humanely kill pythons at the capture location. However, python skins or meat may be kept and/or sold.

Some Burmese pythons removed from the Everglades that have been tested for mercury levels had high amounts of mercury for human consumption. Though it is not illegal to eat python meat, the FWC cautions that neither the Florida Department of Health nor the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services have stated that python meat is safe to consume.

Question.

When the pythons exhaust their food sources in the Everglades won’t they die off.
They can only migrate so far North before the cold will kill them.

Seems like this problem will solve itself in a few years.

Exhausting their own food means they’ve killed off native species. That’s not good.

Look at what regulations have done to the growth in alligator populations in the south.

First they put them on the Endangered Species List and outlawed all hunting, killing, etc. for many years.

Then as the population recovered and grew to stupid levels, they at least opened a hunting season and my understanding is it only happens in August here in La. and you have to tag each gator as it is harvested.

People like Troy Landry and those guys/gals on the TV show "Swamp People" are just a few of the hunters in the state that harvest the animals, but they too are restricted to only daytime hunting and quotas not to exceed their gator tag allotment.

My best guess is between the Landry's, Bruce, Willie and son, LeRon/Porkchop and Ronnie and Ashley, they probably bring in around a couple thousand gators a year before they tag out. Even at those numbers, they are not putting a dent in the gator population.

The restrictions on snake hunting in Fla. are beyond stupid. Catch them live, bring them to a dealer to dispatch them to be processed for their skin.

Not sure about the meat from these snakes. I know there are those that will eat it, and for sure there's a ton of meat on a big python to be harvested. I'm just not sure how tough that meat would be since it is a constrictor and likely just one HUGE, lean muscle from head to tail.

Again this IS NOT TRUE

Only FWC staff, permit holders and python removal contractors and the South Florida Water Management District can legally transport live Burmese pythons. Everyone else must kill these snakes on site.
