Do you pronounce it (root) or (rout)?

Rout. Because I don't call a router a "rooter".

The same way Sonic does, rout.

Do receivers run roots our routs?

I'll go with what Sonic and football go with.

I pronounce it to rhyme with "out" in all situations (such as "a paper route",
when used as a last name (I taught with Mrs. Route (really did, lol),
and when used on a map with a number.

BUT...

Isn't Route 66 pronounced as if it were "Root 66"?

depends on the other words in the sentence

"I need to find a new rout"

"what root did you take?"
