I agree with that.

On school nights, phones were powered off and put on my dresser until they got up in the morning.

Otherwise they wouldn’t get a good nights sleep.

No Xbox or tv on school nights. Problem solved.

If l were you, I'd give him back the tv privilege when he proves he can do chores. Keep the Xbox for the weekend.

Eh, tv, Xbox, phone games... They are all about the same....

I am on the giving back when he proves he has earned it stage.. problem is he earns it then loses it within two days. And momma is on me about him being grounded all the time.

He pretty much stays grounded from Xbox and tv. He does pretty good when he is grounded, but as soon as he gets them back after being grounded a few weeks it's back to the forgetting to do this or that.

Sounds like you have the solution. Lengthen the Xbox/tv grounding for each event. Phase it back in slowly or continually limit his time on it until he develops the habits you want. Remember he's 8, though.

Prioritize your expectations. I would go this route with verifications of doing it for a while and praise for accomplishing those tasks. Remember he's learning, ease him in

1. Homework obviously.
2. Feed and water the pets.
3. Get a shower the night before school
4. Pick out his clothes for the next day.
5. Wake up on time by his alarm, fix hair, brush teeth, get dressed for school.
6. Take out trash if needed

And remember every kid is different. some require reminders for a lot longer than others. I'm 56 and my wife will tell you I still do for somethings

Make him do all the chores first and then he can play as much Xbox as he wants.

This will 1: teach him to do work first before play, and 2:the actual act of doing the chores takes up time and limits screen time.

Lol, ok fella so you came looking for output/advice and in the same breath you give others advice.
I wish you and your family well but you really have to understand that your son will only do what he is taught.

Sounds like he is only motivated by external forces. You need to break this. Try removing distractions permentally (Xbox, etc) until he realizes it is in his best interest to get his shite together. FYI, I was your son.

His biggest problem is that when he has TV and Xbox he comes home and does that instead of getting chores

How about you tell him you can’t watch TV or play x-box until your chores are done. You miss one in the morning, you don’t get it.

Stop being reactive and be proactive. That being said, he will probably never get it as that will be his personality. I’m guessing he is very stubborn too.

Dude, we enforce that and he follows it for two weeks straight.

Problem is when he earns it back he goes back to fricking up.

He literally got ungrounded last weekend and was grounded again in two days. Last time it was two weeks. I told him it would be worse the next time... So three weeks.

But his momma is like BUT MUH CHRISTMAS

your son is uncomfortable in his own skin. You have forced your Cis views on him and he is unable to adapt. Help him transition to the female form and things will straighten out.

Your 8 year old son son sounds like a completely normal kid. Relax.

That is a sad arse commentary on today's kids if so, because my arse would have been beaten daily if I didn't follow instructions daily.

We also caught him smooching on my wife's friend's daughter... Never seen a redder face, lol

I punch them in the face as hard as I can. I actually chain their arms to the walls and crow hop punch them.

“Circle” by Disney. It gives us control of all devices using WiFi in our home. I can disable any device or all devices with an app on my phone. If they don’t do what they are supposed to do when they are supposed to do it, they get “Circled”. It also gives us control over content. Best $100 we’ve ever spent.

You're missing the point. He never earns it back at 8 years old. He's 8. You're teaching him wrong.

He does his chores every day and then he can play games. That's it. For years of his life.

He has been spanked several times this year, but we try to reserve that for things like lying etc... Which it seems he has gotten better at.

Spanking is not going to help with forgetting, IMO.

Make him a chore chart. He can mark off everything when he is finished, so he can see what he has accomplished and what he has left to do.

I never spanked my kids. I took privileges away instead.

And, I'm happy to report that despite my shortcomings, my kids turned out to be really good adults.
