How do you properly align your satellite dish to get a signal?

I had to remount the damn thing because of shoddy work done by the installer months ago. Been googling for the last few hours and can’t find any simple instructions on how to do this. Anyone have any pointers?

Don't mess with it yourself because you don't know what you're doing and call a professional

Call your satellite provider?

I did. They will be out in the morning so I figured I can’t frick it up anymore than it already is

I was always curious if that myself.
I have seen a technician go to a neighbors house and hook a wire remote up and the dish moved some and then he left.
Which, at that point, i laughed cause i figured they just got charged $150 for 2 minutes of work

People still have satellite dishes in 2018?

Well, that's because you have to point your 2 foot wide dish directly at something the size of a minivan... that's over 22,000 miles away.

Calm down Pectus. You are jumping off the spectrum.

Have someone inside on the phone tell you when all the bars go into the 90s. Then go to next satellite. Google it, there is info out there

I did this once: Put the TV in signal strength detection mode. The wife watched that while on the phone with me and told me when I had a good signal. Once you have the good signal, just tighten the bolts back down.

Every home football game, I see several folks that tailgate around me all pissed off trying to get their satellite systems to work. Leaving after the game, I always laugh when I see several dishes all smashed up in the trash....that tells me something!

It needs to point South. That's all I have for you.

Get the mounting pole absolutely plumb. Not kinda or within a count hair. But dead on plumb. Set the elevation on the dish according to your zip code per satellite provider. Use compass app on your phone to set the azimuth. Once you acquire signal use your thumb to press up, down, left, and right to see which direction you need to go to peak signal.

About 10 years ago when I had dish I had to hook up some computer speakers with a long cable so I could hear the signal audio. I'd think they have signal apps now for dish and direct, but not sure.
