How do you get to be a reviewer on Amazon?

I've been buying quite a bit lately on Amazon, and when reading reviews on items, a lot of them say "I received this item for free or at a reduced rate for my unbiased review".

Companies find customers who are already posting well-written and thoughtful reviews that get lots of "helpful" votes. Some of those people post as if it were their job - maybe it kinda is? Companies then send these people products for review.
There is a whole forum for product ambassadors/reviewers. It's an interesting read.

I hopped on the bandwagon for a bit and started posting reviews on everything I ever bought on Amazon, but then I had things to do and never got back around to it.
