Thanks. I knew theyd push back as hard as they could for damage control.
I'll fight them to the death. I'm still driving about 600 miles a week so I am in absolutely no hurry to start doing that in a truck. As soon as the Jetta papers are signed, I'm buying a new truck and canceling insurance on the old one.

My paperwork I submitted online has been in their "audit process" for a month. This is BS this company can go on out of business after this and I won't care.

Be prepared for them to email you back with some minor error on your paperwork.
For instance, the footer on one of the pages I scanned back did not completely scan.

They're buying mine back Jan 26. I haven't had any issues other than timeliness. On Nov 11 they said they'd have my papers finalized within 10 business days. They didn't get that done for another month. Finally set my appointment and done with the online portal.
If you're still waiting in limbo, I suggest you call the claim center and ask for a status update. I kissed the reps arse and was told "within 3 days you'll hear back". I got my final papers less than 3 hours later the same day.

No, it was emissions and MPG in some vehicles.
However, VW was promoting their "clean diesel" cars and some people in the market for low emission/high MPG vehicles (like the Prius) purchased those VW models instead. Had VW been forthcoming with the true emissions standards those people may not have purchased the VW over the competition.

They based a huge part of their business on a fraudulent product. They were the only diesel car out there without urea injection for years, giving them an unfair advantage over the competition.
I could give a shite about our stupid emissions requirements. I actually think they are unnecessarily punitive when it comes to diesels. What is an outrage to me is the fraud aspect of this. The cheating and lying to gain a competitive edge is inexcusable.

What are you expecting back? I've gone onto the buyback website and run the numbers on the buyback versus the fix and based what it spit out it doesn't make sense to give it back to VW.
I've got a 2015 Passat TDI SEL with about 46k on it.
Buyback option says VW will pay me back about $1500+.
Modification option says about $3800+ which is the total of the initial mod + subsequent mod.
One guy I know has a '09 Jetta and thinks he's getting $12-18k back. Another guy I know has a 2 door Audi that that's maybe 2 years older than mine and is anticipating around $20k.
What am I missing?

My buyback price was exactly what I calculated from the website. I turn my car in on the 12th. I've signed my offer and scheduled the date. Already bought a new car and the VW is parked.
In regards to buyback time, it takes a while. Make sure you do everything right the first time. Upload everything online and make sure nothing is expired (DL or registration). Once approved (~30 days), you'll get an offer in about 2 weeks, then you have to sign and get notarized. Then it took about a week for me to be able to schedule my turn in date. First available wasn't until the 12th, and that was for every dealership in the Houston area.
Someone mentioned mileage being the issue. I think that is misinformation spread by people who aren't familiar. If mileage was affected, people would have noticed long ago. Someone buying a 40 mpg vehicle is the type of person to pay attention to their mileage. Almost everyone I've talked to got significantly better than EPA estimates. It was just emissions. And the issue with that is only that we wouldn't be able to drive them without getting a "fix" which might completely destroy the reliability and fuel mileage of the car. I don't see how anyone can take the fix. Not even mentioning how it will no doubt be a diminished value vehicle. The buyback is the only way to guarantee pre scandal blue book value, plus 5k.

Buyback amount is the Sept '15 KBB Clean trade value of your version of the TDI (VIN verified) in excellent condition. Plus $5,100 restitution, less excess mileage adjustment for anything over 12k/yr.

Those dudes are PoS.
But.. I want my babckbacks for our 2 TDis affected. Resale value went down 10-15% overnight due to this shtt. One reason we purchased TDis for work vehicles was for their great resale even at high mileages.

I thought it was a bit disingenuous to use that level of a mileage adjustment as the appeal for these vehicles was for people driving 30k+ annually.
