Life is suffering. Do not be too attached to your anxiety, fear and sadness about the temporary nature of life. Attachment to negativity and arrogance and inhumility and selfishness are the hallmarks of a life poorly lived. This right here.

When you consider all things that exists and the incredible complexity of it all, common sense tells you that it didn't "just happen." So a Creator has to be the answer to that. Who was the Creator? Christians believe that Jesus gave us the answer. Who is more credible as the One to worship than Jesus? Consider the founders of the major world religions and none has proof of divinity
except Jesus. What is that proof? The witnesses to His miracles and to His death and resurrection - the apostles. They were all killed for preaching the gospel
except for John, who died a natural death. Twelve men who left everything behind to follow Jesus, were taught by Him, suffered greatly in most cases. They would not have done this to perpetuate a lie if Jesus was a fake. Jesus was a real person, God Himself who took the form of a human being to come to earth and reveal Who and What God was like because He was God.

This is being said to give you hope; there is a time to be born and a time to die, but death is not the end. When you were created by God you were given a soul which is immortal - you will live forever. The question is where
will your soul (you) live in eternity. Jesus explained all this during His time on earth and laid out the path to spending eternity in Heaven or Hell. And we were given the power to choose for ourselves which path we wanted to take. Choose Jesus - choose eternal life in Heaven. Deny Jesus - choose eternal separation from God and the punishment that comes with it.

I don't know if you were posing a serious question with your post. My answer will predictably bring forth a deluge of derisive comments but don't let that deter you from finding an answer to your question. Your answer is in the Bible. Seek and you will find. Knock and the door will be opened to you. Seriously, your eternal future is at stake - and you have to make your decision in this life. Choose wisely and you will find the peace you seek.

Never seen that, but that's basically been my thoughts as well. As a former atheist, currently a lapsed agnostic, whenever religion is discussed I've basically said that very thing, just not as eloquent.

Or at least the reincarnation thing where I would come back in another form later on but have no prior recollection of former life.

Based upon our understanding of consciousness and self, this is a logical thought. We tend to define consciousness only from our human perspective, but every living organism has at least a rudimentary sensory interaction with its environment.

Consciousness comes from processing input from the senses and then acting upon conclusions made from them. Of course, humans are sentient and take consciousness much further than can a lichen.

If we project your thought onto our selves, we can say that we were likely a lichen once; also a caribou, a termite, a philodendron and a velociraptor. Even more, we were life forms on exoplanets. There're no restrictions to what we were.

We can say that consciousness comes and consciousness goes. What we can't say, yet, is that it's quantified. Meaning that it's an entity that exists in some form and occupies living beings in a nonlinear pattern from first thought (or interaction with the environment) to death.

I suspect that it is, but not in a mysterious, nebulous manner. Rather, it's a logical effect of life that is detectable by some means that we or our successor species will eventually discover.

I cope by not thinking about shite like that when I'm high. My rule is no politics, no death, no afterlife, or there is no smoking.

I talk to my dog, but she’s dying of cancer.
I play my guitar, but what comes out just makes me sadder.
I look at the stars and wonder what I’m still doing here.
I drink a bottle dry and remember it don’t heal.

Instead of worrying, be grateful that somehow, someway, the atoms aligned just so and you were born. Think about the statistical probability of that. Its a miracle. You can see, can hear, can taste, feel and experience emotion. Not only that but you are an American living in the South Be grateful for every day and be someone that brings joy in others. Life is lived in relationship.

Remember also this rule of physics; matter is neither created or destroyed, only changed in form. You have always existed and always will. Only the form will change.

Be glad you are alive.

Hell yes. Well said.

I respect your position. And some of it is pretty good coping / seeking mantras.

But it seems to me that a state sponsored murder is a horrible thing to base a religion on.

I'm not stupid. No one lives forever. No one. But with advances in modern science and my high level of income, I mean, it's not crazy to think I can't live to be 245, maybe 300. Heck, I just read in the newspaper they put a pig heart in some guy from Russia
