I loved baseball as a kid. But I would’ve hated it if I had to play every weekend year round.
Not defending travel ball one way or the other, my son does it and I see both sides. But something that is often repeated is playing every weekend. They play about 9-10 tournaments a year. 1 in Feb, 2 in March April and May and a couple in June. That is it until January this year.
As I said, there are some issues with it, notably the use of young arms. But playing year round is wrong. Most teams don’t

Omg.
We pay about 500 bucks a year for my son and they are a majors team that plays just fine w the best teams.
Paying a coach or organization for a red white and black in each age is asinine. That is like over a half million a year for the organization. But having cool practice facilities is nice

In total from all the different teams, with varying scholly’s about 10. It’s not easy I’m not saying that at all. But it helps smaller schools in areas that would never see you playing locally get to see you. I’m not saying do or don’t thats a family decision. But if he has talent it defiantly helps.

Say "no" and find a good rec team with a good coach...not that hard. Your kid can still experience in-state tournaments and will not miss out on much. Source:a number of daughters played soccer through high school and several were recruited for premier but family was more important. They played hs at a high level (BRMHS) and did not suffer from not playing premier.

I played baseball with neighborhood kids almost every day during the summer, as did my kids who are now grown, there were no travels teams, maybe a couple of kids played little league, when did the world change and this travel ball stuff start?

Break your kids leg so he cant be fast at anything anymore.

When did kids start making decisions in America? Watch this:
Kid: “Can I play travel ball?”
Parent: “No it’s not good for you to play ball year round for any sport at such a young age. Some parents are assholes and they raise their kids to be assholes and we don’t need to associate with that many assholes. Just because your friend plays for a travel ball team doesn’t mean you have to. Be a leader not a follower. There are other leagues you can play in that don’t require us to use all of our vacation to watch you play. Until you are older you don’t have to worry about becoming the next greatest player.”
And scene.

I would get your son in a competitive league ball (if they still exist) and then he can play all stars during the summer. Get him lessons from someone who actually knows what they are doing so that he can be competitive and have a chance to play high school ball. Don’t need to do travel ball but (at least in the BR area) baseball is really competitive around here and most of those guys that play high school ball played travel ball. I’m with you, I think travel ball has became watered down and they play too much baseball which is not good for kids to do. If you want extra reps sign him up for a fall ball league so he can practice some more and it won’t be too much baseball

You seriously think your offspring will be good enough to play?

With all these Travel Sports I find something odd. I never see kids outside playing! Like never. When I do I'm shocked. Why can't they play outside or at the park? We used to play basketball against grown men at the gym and parks growing up.
Leave it to adults to take one of the greatest aspects of being a kid an ruin it.

You're a bad parent and a horrible person if you'd miss a child's event in order to watch strangers run around.

Selfish. If your kid is talented you should encourage him You’re selfish bro

Your kid isn't grinding his way to the majors. If you don't want to travel that much, don't. It's pretty damn easy.

Just say
“Son, you’re not playing travel ball.”
“But why, dad?”
“Because I said so.”
“That’s not fair!”
“Life ain’t fair, son. Now go cut the grass.”
The End.

My dad gave us the ole, "As long as you put your feet under my table at dinner time, you do what I say."
My mamma was a great cook. I wasn't missing any meals.
My brothers, and I would mock him behind his back, and change it to. "Boy I own you!"

is travel ball worse then travel soccer?
They probably don't recruit as many poor Mexican American kids.
I worked with a guy in Dallas who was his son's select team recruiter. They hired him to do that because he had put together an awesome team before the kids were old enough to play select. One of those kids eventually made the US Junior National Team, and moved to wherever it is that they train.
Anyway, when he became the recruiter for the select team, he lost the eventual US National Team kid because another team bought his dad a new pickup.
Any travel ball stories like that, or all they all just rich kids?

Listen to this wisdom, OP. The same goes for the rest of all you pussy-arse, gender revealing dads.
