Don't be so selfish. He's your friend and he's making a change to better his life. Go support him then you can take a nap after.

How do people end up with crappy roommates? Mine were always best bros that wouldnt make me do stupid stuff.
He arrived last June fresh off of a trip to Oregon that involved copious amounts of liquor, pot, and casual sex. He continued partying like that for about three months and then everything came to a screeching halt one day.
It's really been one of the most bizarre transformations I have ever observed with someone his age, especially in such a short period of time.
He still acts like a bro...just a really religious, monogamous, abstinent, and sober bro.

I'm an a-hole, but I'd just tell him no and not offer any explanation. Thankfully, I don't have any retarded friends like you do

sleep in at the local motel and don't disclose location or at gf place if possible
that way when he get's up and sees you're not there, he's got nothing to say
shut off your phone too
when you finally see him, don't apologize, just ask him how it went, then drop it...

Why would he even want you there?

Why not just take an afternoon nap?
I've got work that afternoon. Plus, I find that an afternoon nap doesn't properly replace sleep lost during the night.

Just be honest. "look dude, congrats on getting baptised, but I am not going to make it Sunday". If he ask why, you can throw in a little white lie like "I havent been feeling well the past several days so I really need to get some sleep in". frick making up some bullshite story,

This guy gets it. It's not hard to come up with a white lie. It won't bother him believe me

religious people like that want to convert you to their way of thinking.
Just nut up and say no simply. Not that hard.

As many of said, just tell him you don't want to go.
I seriously doubt he cares that much if you are there or not. Probably just asked you to be nice.

So just to clarify… This guy has made a dramatic change in his life for the better and has invited you to attend a significant event marking said change..... What a remarkable a-hole for wanting to involve you in something like that !

Tell him it is against your religion to worship a false god...

Yeah...but it's on a Sunday morning. I don't invite people to do shite on a weekend morning.
What if it's my equivalent to Shabbos?
quote:
Walter Sobchak: Saturday, Donny, is Shabbos, the Jewish day of rest. That means that I don't work, I don't drive a car, I don't fricking ride in a car, I don't handle money, I don't turn on the oven, and I sure as shite don't fricking roll!

Some of those non dom churches encourage new members to invite all of their friends and family to that stuff. And you said he is doing it again? Then you never know with this guy. You go Sunday, then 3 weeks later when he decides to join up with Jeff Warren, he will expect you to go to that shite as well.

How do I get out of attending my roommate's baptism?
forward this as an email attachment.

My roommate has undergone a "born-again" transformation of sorts and has decided to get baptized once more. He has invited me to attend, but I honestly just don't have any inclination to do so.
It's on Sunday morning, the day I get to sleep in, and at a non-denominational church that is a bit out there when it comes to their services.
He and I aren't lifelong friends by any means, so I don't feel like some spiritual occasion like this warrants my presence.
