I started a low carb diet and haven't had an issue since.
That's what I'm on now and no heartburn.

Don't eat foods late at night. Doctor got me to take Zegrid x2 a day. The thing that has helped me most is elevating my headboard. Went to Lowe's and got two 4x4 blocks and put them under each leg of my headboard.

Got prescribed pantoprazole as well for a while because I had terrible GERD for over 10 years. After changing my diet from eating a bunch of trash all the time to eating a lot more vegetables and fruit and a lot less meat, I was able to stop taking everything

It comes and goes for me and I have been on diffrent meds with mixed results. What has brough me the most relief:
1. Stop drinking, especially brown liquors like rum and whiskey
2. Eating less and never eat late at night
3. Lose weight
The drinking, at least for me, was what caused 90% of my symptoms. I never was a cumpulsive drinker, but I usually did drink heavy one or two weekends a month. After those binge sessions, my heartburn/gerd would flare up and last for a few days. It wasn't until I went a few months without drinking that I realized I had been symptom free

I take the same as others on here. Pantaprozole. I now take it once per week and rarely get it now. You have to find out what is triggering it. There are so many different causes. I stopped eating things like canned tuna, premade red sauces, and other fatty food.

I stopped drinking as much, I eat smaller meals and use digestive enzymes, and started taking a fiber supplement.
ETA: I developed GERD after gallbladder removal.

Prevacid fixed me after a few months . I don't take it anymore.

Had it for over 10 years but it's only occasional. When it shows up I eat a Tums1000 and it usually take care of it. Don't like the thought of acid in my esophagus so I have to step my game up.
BTW I have that throat clear thing but it is not as bad as in the beginning. Must be some sort of protective measure by the body.

I raised the head two inches and that helped.

Started taking 60 billion live culture probiotic with acidophilus, cut out bread and dairy. Gone.

Prilosec fan here. I found that I needed it less than once a day, and titered my self to once every other day, and it has worked. I also erase problems by going low carb.
PPIs are getting some bad press lately. As the use of them has been going on for a few years now, large population studies are finding correlations with muscle and bone deficencies and dementia.

I've been taking Pantaprozole for probably 10 years now. I've tried stopping (or randomly missed my pills for a day or two) and I hurt it if I don't take them. I'm pretty much taking this the rest of my life I have a feeling. I never go anywhere without at least 2 Tums in my pocket.

If you want to end it for good, the only way that I've heard of is getting the surgery. It's almost always cause by a hiatal hernia. I'm scheduled to have the surgery this summer.

I didn't mention something that I should have... I never have heartburn. Just constant throat clearing and erosion of my molars' enamel.
I picked up some Prilosec today, and I'm going to take it for the 14 days. Thanks for all responses.

Doctor just prescribes me Prilosec (Omneprazole) generic and its free with insurance.
I have ARD and it almost nullifies it unless I go on a 2-3 night stretch of hard partying and spicy food eating (i.e. Jazz Fest, which WRECKED me).
