I went hard on the whiskey Saturday night and ate some Popeyes on Sunday around lunchtime. Boy it was one ugly sighting in my bathroom yesterday afternoon

My doctor recommended I have surgery to repair a suspected hernia too. Been taking protonix for years and can't go without it. Do you know if the surgery is inpatient or outpatient.

No tomato products.

No citrus products.

No fizzy or caffeinated drinks (cokes, coffee, tea).

No eating at least three hours before you go to bed.

No eating until you are stuffed.

Slightly elevate the head of your bed.

Medication can help as well.

These are things that people I know have used. Reflux issues seem to be increasing significantly among people.

Had it really bad for dozens of years. Many ulcers, threw up every night sometimes violently no matter what I ate. Tried all of the prescribed medicines and found Aciphex to be most effective but not totally effective. Had to cycle through different medicines but usually came back to Aciphex. After years of suggestions I had the Nissen fundoplicatuon and have been 99% better since. Still get the occasional problem but no longer every night.

A couple livable side effects. 1) can't burp anymore so sometimes there is a little discomfort. 2) can't throw up so if I get the flu it's not like I'll throw up and feel better. 3) gained weight because food stays down now

All in all I would do it again in a heartbeat. I still get scoped twice a year because of permanent erosion and elevated risk of Cancer.

I had major problems with reflux...I finally woke up and did something about it all when one of my coworkers died from esophageal cancer a couple of years back.

I lost weight, eat reasonable amounts of decent food, and never eat anything past about 7:30 PM, and take a generic Prilosec (omeprazole) every morning...

I almost never have problems with it as long as I stick with that regimen. On the rare occasion that I do wake up with some reflux, I get up immediately and eat a couple of tums to get rid of the acid in my esophagus...

I really didn't realize how badly I was sleeping due to the reflux all night...

I've talked to a few people who have had great results eating sauerkraut when symptoms flare up. You need to eat the homemade kind or sauerkraut that hasn't been pasteurized. The beneficial probiotics are what does the trick.

Beware of taking PPI's(Prilosec) long term as it can lead to kidney damage and dementia. New finding are coming out after years of use. Be careful and good luck.
I'm working on this problem, too.

Update on this. I have pretty much beaten the throat clearing. I did a few things: Prilosec for 14 days, quit caffeine (drank coffee every day), and lost weight.

I had this other thing where I would frequently aspirate for no reason while drinking, and that has mostly subsided. Cheers, fellas.
