People are stupid.
But for Superman, I also wonder how many people never actually saw Superman up close and personal. He was too busy flying through the air, moving faster than a bullet, etc. I would wager even without the glasses, most people in Metropolis wouldn't recognize him if he wasnt in his red & blue costume.

I had a coworker not recognize me one time bc I wore glasses and a hat. It happens.

Well, the original superman would stand there, while the bad guy shot him, and the bullets bounced off.
But once the bad guy ran out of bullets, and then threw the gun at him, superman would duck out of the way.

Same reason good looking women in the movies/TV are considered nerds if they wear dorky clothes and glasses? Yeah i couldnt tell she was hot until she removed the glasses.
