Whatever happened to the Schwegman's - the huge grocery store off Bullard?

Born 1960. We lived on Lancelot Dr. in Castle Manor. Some of the best memories of my life there. Had I gone to High School there I'd have gone to Abramson - it wasn't yet built. We lived relatively close to Kerry Curly Park. Great place in the day.

Apartments

I get so pissed seeing new apartments going up constantly. As soon as the economy turns they’ll be section 8 and my area will be a shithole overnight.

One guess what happened......give up yet

We lived there in the seventies, Oakbrook Apts., clean, safe, kids walked around by themselves. Grounds immaculate, Shopping Centers were safe then.......

The Black Plague.......Not being a Racist, plain truth, ask anyone who lived out here

Under the previous administration, HUD had a stated policy of placing Section 8 in areas without it. Our federal government was actively working to turn the country ghetto.

Watch Hwy 21 and I-12 area in St. Tammany. It'll be NOLA East-type shithole in short order with all those apartments.

Section 8 housing, relocating families from the projects (sounded like a good idea), but it was so far away from the Nola central business district that those wanting to work had a hard time getting there etc.

Without really answering the question, you sort of answered the question.

One of the biggest reasons is public transportation from CBD out to the East.

This is one reason why Northshore resident fight tooth and nail against any sort of public rail system from Mandeville to the CBD.
